It's super cool but very expensive and you at minimum want a 1080Ti to drive 4k, even with gsync. All in youd be looking around 2.5 grand but it would be sweeeeeet

Maybe one day. I have a feeling replacing a 10 yr old monitor with the one you suggested will be mind blowing as is. I'll leave the curved screen for another day.

Thanks a ton again for your help, PsYcNeT.

Youre going to grab a 1080 as well, yeh? I assume you meant your old card was a 970, which will be good but a bit underpowered for 1440p.

Also, a couple setup tips: make sure ypu enable gsync in the Nvidia CP, and remember gsync works best on Fullscreen, the windowed modes, even tho they are now available, arent as good. Also remember to set your refrsh rate to 144hz in the CP and turn OFF vsync/triple buffering in any game you run.

Tftcentral has good color settings for the monitor but everyone has a diff preference.

Hey if you haven't bought already and can wait. Consider checking out EVGA bstock sales. Their ftw2 model is 550 USD (about 670 cad). And the nice thing is it's free shipping and no duty or tax. I got the hybrid from their sale and I've had no issues with it even though it's bstock.

I think I tried an EVGA once and their fans were too loud. I returned it for an Asus which had the same two fans but was nearly silent.

I have an EVGA 1080ti SC2. I can't hear it normally. It does have a bit of coil whine in certain circumstances (Witcher 3 menus) but that's rare.

Good to know, I'm super picky about computer noise tho. I wonder what their return policy is (i.e. if I get a b stock card and really don't like it). Their regular policy is a 15% restocking fee, which is a lot to just try a card.

I'm quite happy with my 1080 Hybrid from EVGA. The pump noise isn't too bad, no noticeable coil whine. I did switch out the radiator fan for a noctua though.

However, my computer already isn't that silent and I'm usually wearing a headset so I guess I'm not too picky about ambient noise.

The loudest thing in my computer when it is idle is probably my regular spindle hard drive whenever it spins up.

It does get louder when I game but I have a headset on for that, but when I'm working I like my computer nice and quiet.

It would be nice to do a silent build one day with a server to eliminate a mechanical drive in your computer.

Do you guys have your rigs up on your desk? I prefer to keep mine on the floor (on a stand of sorts cause dust) under my desk. Out of sight, out of mind. Bit of a PITA getting at the cabling in the back at times but as long as I have some available ports on the front, that isn't often an issue.

No, i have mine on a panel lifted off the carpet but essentially on the floor. Desk space is precious, and investigating issues is easier when you have ease of access.

What do you guys use to keep the computer of the floor? My case has pretty big feet on the bottom of it which I feel is enough distance off the floor, but I want to compare notes.

My case is designed to be on the floor, it has space between the bottom and the fans to pull all the air to cool the case. It's a massive case, I would be scared to have it on a desk it'd kill a small child if it fell.

My desk has a cubby on either side of the legs. Keep my computer in there which is both convenient but a PITA. No other good option with my current desk.

When I get a new desk, it will still be on the floor but sitting on a firm surface like a piece of old shelving or something. Sitting on carpet is likely fine but feel like a solid surface under it cuts down a bit on dust.

There are lots of decent hangers you can buy that bolt in to your desk. It's a good option for browsing or email computers but likely not a great idea for enthusiasts with large cases.

I use my case to hold up my house. Not my picture but this is my case.

I'm fancy, it's a piece of drywall:

(this is how I save money for PC parts)

Yep, that's basically the one I have too except silver. They are beasts, hence the reason it will never sit on my desk. Great cases though.

So got new monitor and vid card installed last night, so awesome! My god that monitor is fantastic. When I was at ME, told the guy what I was after and almost a hush fell across the sales counter. Guy literally said "Dood, good choice".

Think I've done everything needed. Cranked the "overclock" as the menu puts it to max, adjusted settings in nVidia control panel to match, disabled v-sync in all my games.

Didn't get much time to really try it out but based on what I've seen so far, wow. My old monitor sat on a stand and figured, after ripping my desk apart, I'd have to build a new one. Nope, this monitor has plenty of height adjustment. Thing is solid as a rock.

Glad to hear it's working out!

Yeah it looks and feels great, even faffing about in Windows. Wait until you boot up something that looks spectacular (Witcher 3, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, BF1, etc.) and you'll see where Sync tech really stands out (esp in FPS).

It's even more jarring if you have two monitors setup, and you assign your old monitor as a Primary and run the same game after playing on the sync monitor.
