Default Satellite Phone

Hello,

The company I am working with right now is looking for a satellite phone for their Operations in the Christina Lake area. It would be used as an emergency backup in case cellular is out or unavailable.

Anyone have a vendor they would recommend that they have worked with? Our IT group can't seem to find a good word on any of the vendors out there good or bad.

Any advice is appreciated!

We used Globalstar for quite a while until their satellites were knocked out several years ago.
I hear that they are back online again and running smoothly.
We switched over to SPOT beacons instead in case of an emergency and will not likely go back to sat phones.

There are a few options, MSAT, VSAT, GlobalStar, Iridium.

The GlobalStar SPOT is definitely one option available to you. I have sent you a PM.

This would be for communication on an Evac. From what I see the SPOT is more of a beacon for GPS location.

We only need one phone. I see Ebola has messaged me, and maybe the SPOT Phone would work.

Thanks for the info!

Just caught this thread and thought I would add my two cents.

I worked for a company a few years ago and satellite communications was our business.

I would recommend Iridium. It is the most reliable, best call quality and fair rates. You can buy a pre loaded card with minutes, pay month to month or go on a term plan. There are other less expensive services and hardware out there but are very unreliable and have poor call quality.

Go see Jim or Phil at Infosat Communications here in Calgary and they will be able to set you up probably same day with a phone, plan and Pelican case to store, protect and transport it when not in use.
