Darren Dutchyshen Passes Away
Quote:
Long-time TSN personality and SportsCentre host Darren Dutchyshen passed away Wednesday. He was 57.
“Darren Dutchyshen was a legend of Canadian sports broadcasting, a great teammate, and an essential part of TSN for the last three decades,” said Stewart Johnston, Senior Vice President, Sales & Sports, Bell Media.
“A larger-than-life personality, Darren’s incredible sense of humour and magnetic energy made him a natural broadcaster who connected easily with viewers. His enthusiasm reminded us every day of why we love sports. Most significantly, Darren was a friend to all of us at TSN, and we will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his loved ones.”

Initial diagnosis was prostate cancer in 2021 I believe, which he announced in 2022 on air with Hedger had spread but was treatable. I remember seeing the clip.

Very sad. I know he had returned to TSN broadcasts somewhat recently but not for very long. Agreed, way too young.

Wow. I know he was sick for a bit but he was on Sportscenter recently and looked good. He's been a staple of sports TV since his Edmonton broadcasting days. RIP

Damn. RIP.
Dutchy and Gino Reda are still who I think of first for whatever reason when I think of TSN... probably because I don't watch as much TSN these days I suppose.

He might have been the only good thing to come out of Edmonton.

I had the chance of spending time with Dutchy at a charity event. He was the MC and we sat at the same table. He was super personable, funny, and just seemed like a great guy. He was also in such incredible shape - it's sad to see this happen. RIP Dutchy.
