St Louis adds Karlsson
St Louis Times Dispatch Sun Herald Picayune (AP)
St Louis showed their intention of not going into the free agency field but instead decided to trade for a top pairing defenseman.
The Blues made a move with the Calgary Flames that was described by the Blues GM as rapidly developing.
The Blues bring in Erik Karlsson a 30 year top pairing defenseman and a 3rd round pick as well as 6 million dollars in cap space. In exhange the Flames receive St Louis' 2 first round draft picks in 2022.
"We identified the need for a top pairing mobile defenseman that can QB a power play and Erik certainly addresses that". We realize that the price is high, but we got him for a close to cap neutral as we could get." stated CaptainCrunch
The Blues blue line became a little bit more crowded today with Karlsson joining a blueline that features Maata, De Haan, DeMelo, Graves, Holden and Mayfield".
"We're probably going to want to make a move to stabilize things on the back end to address some of our future concerns including picking up more prospects or draft picks. But at the same time a Karlsson doesn't come along everyday and when it does you have to act.
Once again thanks to the Flames management for working with us"

I've really enjoyed Captain not being afraid to make moves to make his team a contender.
It's always a balance of going for it and not sacrificing the future too much...but like you say Karlsson is still a top dman

Simple deal as ultimately we are still looking to the future and adding assets to the organization. Thrilled to add the Anaheim 1st in 2022! Thanks for the easy talks, the Blues are shaping up to be quite the contender this year.

I might just be insane, but at least if it falls apart I have assets
For all those that have sent trade inquiries in about the two defensemen, I'm away tonight returning tomorrow night, I'll look at them when I return

The thing that made me laugh, Mikka reached out to talk and made me an offer to talk trade on three veteran defensemen on his team, and told me to jam them in the analytics machine that I have.
I was actually surprised when I did put them into the trade sheet and the lineup sheet how strong of a match Karlsson. I mean he's a jerk and has bad hair but the sheet doesn't take that into account for now.
I've really enjoyed this thing so far, and its changed how I think about players in the grand scheme of things. And its a nice mental exercise in that I'm now on V4 of that sheet.
Here's hoping this works out in terms of the Sim.

You're in for a rude wake up call...JK
In all seriousness I love the thoughts and effort you have done and am curious if the randomness of the sim has been overcome. Some have said I have figured it out in recent years, but honestly I have no idea what I am doing 99% of the time and just got lucky with strong teams.

i used to play in a league that used APBA as a simulator, it was really good for running the games and tracking and reporting, but it was so finicky.
I built a pretty good team and we started with a really good record, then the team lost 15 games in a row at the end because of a line matching mistake on my part.
Who knows if what I'm doing works, but it will be fun to find out.
