So what happens here? If COVID cuts through a team, do they just forfeit? Does the other team get a win? And this becomes a tourney that is basically "last man standing"?

A huge decision for the commissioner to make is what happens. Manfred need to decide if it's worth it to keep playing after only a week we have almost half a team with COVID. I am expecting them to make a decision cancelling the season. The Yankees won't want to go to the visitor room in Philly. We don't know yet if any of the Phillies players have tested positive or if any of the Braves who played exhibition games against the Marlins are infected.

Well it was fun while it lasted. Yankees/Phillies and Orioles/Marlins games cancelled tonight due to the outbreak on the Marlins.

This was only a matter of time, with MLB's half assed attempt at starting the season.

The league is saying that because its only the Marlins they aren't thinking about cancelling the season at this point. I am not sure how a team cam go forward when they lose 8-12 players from their 30 man roster.

With all of the political shenanigans in the WH, Florida and Texas leading to a health crisis, no one seemed to really give a damn. I wonder if the baseball season is cancelled, or the football season, if that will finally hit home for some people down there that there are consequences to stupid decisions.

OK deep breath. . Question is how many Marlins players are negative. Can they field a competitive team? If no, when can they? Are other teams infected?

There’s a lot to go through before you cancel everything.

This is obviously a huge logistical problem and speaks to how MLB is doing this vs. NBA, NHL etc. But there were calls to cancel NHL season when Mathews tested positive too.

Hopefully they make some informed, rational decisions here.

Thought it would be a good idea to get a MLB.TV subscription, but I'm going to cancel before it charges me.

Service is great, but who knows what is going to happen with the season.

Hey, I've watched a few baseball movies in my day, and if the Cleveland Indians can win the pennant with a bunch of washed up veterans and some rookies from the California Penal League, I say you dress whoever is healthy and let them play.

The haphazard way MLB has attempted to implement this return to play leads me to wonder if this isn’t just a tremendously expensive, roundabout plot to kill Joe West and Angel Hernandez.

Well I hope the NFL is watching. The teams and their support staff are twice as big and the game has way more direct contact among individuals. How can they possibly consider a season if it's not in a bubble?

Yeah it's the arrogance that they thought they could do this without a true bubble. I have my doubts about whether a bubble will also work, but certainly it has a chance. A non-bubble approach seemed destined to fail.

Season will continue, playoff position will be determined by win %. Marlins will return to play...... when they’re all negative??

The Marlins are 2-1 (.667) That would make the playoffs

Of the big 4 sports, baseball has the least amount of close contact between players. Heck, besides the pitcher, I don't think anyone out there is even breathing hard (i.e. increasing the risk of droplet transmission). The biggest risk was players bringing it into the clubhouse from home and sharing it with teammates, which is probably what happened here.

If you have enough players test positive or otherwise unable to play due to COVID concerns, your games should be forfeited until you're able to field a team to play again.

That should be your team's penalty for failing to take the proper precautions.

I tend to agree, but man what a can of worms that could open if you get into a crucial playoff race down the stretch and the team you're battling with for a playoff spot suddenly gets 3 or more free wins because their opponent caught COVID right when they were about to play.

It would be kind of cool if all the pitchers got covid and you have position players pitching.
