Makes a lot more sense for them as a 3C than the decrepit husk of Matt Stajan, that's for sure!

wow. That's a crazy add. Brassard is a guy who elevates his game in the playoffs pretty consistently. A Pens-Lightning series will be very interesting to watch.

Crosby, Malkin, Brassard
Eastern conference centers have fun in the playoffs. Brassard has 55 points in 78 career playoff games and now you add him behind those other two.
Wonder if this makes Tampa think about a center too. Stamkos, Point, Gourde/Johnson/Namestiknov (all three are listed as centers on that 3rd line) is good but I'm not sure I really want to match Point or any of those 3rd line centers against one of Malkin or Crosby in the playoffs.
Although maybe that's less concerning if one of Hedman or Karlsson are on the ice at all times.

Is Brassard a better add than Rick Nash? Early thoughts is that this is something you give up for to get Rick Nash.
Edit: Just looked at the stats. Brassard has same number of goals (in less games), more points and plays a more important position.

Brassard has term left and isn't a rental. Thus the heavier price.

At this point I think I'd rather have Brassard than Nash.

I think Brassard is a very clutch player and to add he is not just a rental but has another year on his deal at a far more realistic cap hit.

I was wondering because the first thing that came to my mind was that unless this is a different Derek Brassard, thats a steep price.

The Sens paid Mika Zibanejad to get Brassard, so the whole thing probably a slight net loss for Ottawa

I think this was a reasonable trade, considering the term left and his production and ability at both ends of the rink. He is the type of player you try to get for the playoffs.
With that being said, I think whomever acquires Nash will be happy. His defensive game is apparently very good right now. I don't think you should consider him a top line player any longer, but I think whatever team trades for Nash will likely be happy with what he adds to a team. I just hope it isn't the Flames

So as of right now this season the Sens have traded:
Turris
2018 First (Top ten protected)
2018 Third
Bowers
Hammond
Brassard
Phaneuf
Thompson
for
Duchene
2018 First
Gustavsson
Cole
Gaborik
Shore
That doesn't seem very inspiring if I'm a Sens fan TBH. Especially since if they make all these deals they probably wont be very good next year, and still owe Colorado that pick (could be Jack Hughes for all we know).

Why would they have considered Stajan for 3C? It's almost like you just something up to facilitate an insult towards him.

Yeah, that looks horrible. At least today's trade made it look a bit better.
They will have a top 4 pick and 25th-31st overall pick.
They better be good next year or Colorado is getting a top 5 pick in 2019
