Paying off bookies. It might not be long until he's suffering another kind of lower body injury. Or swimming with the fishies (not the sharks).
I wonder if the NHL is going to want to dig in a little more on this debt.

Evander Kane, the guy with the infamous money phone picture, has trouble managing money?
Can't say it's surprising, but it's a shame that the debt is that large. Even if he starts right now, it'll take the rest of his career earnings to dig himself out of that hole. Did he invest in dumb business ventures? Or just irresponsible? Like holy cow that's almost triple the debt Jack Johnson was in.

Do we know whether it's chapter 7, 11, or 13 bankruptcy? Or are his assets held in Canada?

Except for the small issue of the lawsuits where the Sharks were making payments on his loans. A bank is suing for a ton, a woman suing for $3M for an abortion, a debt at a Casino, etc. This is worse than the Jack Johnson one where is wages are still garnisheed.

Evander Kane did this to himself.
Jack Johnson was manipulated, and taken advantage of by his parents.

True, I feel for JJ, but not at all for Kane. He is a moron, period. I was just responding to the idea he declares bankruptcy and just starts earning again.

I'm sure there are pictures of him up in every casino in Vegas, Reno and New Jersey. Do not give this man credit.

Pure insanity. What were his career earnings up until this point?
Family security for life and he just pissed it away. Dumb arse.

I, for one, am totally and completely unfazed by this news. This does not surprise me in the slightest.
You're telling me an overly agro dude who flaunts money didn't make wise decisions and is now in trouble? Let me show you the list of dudes I knew from high school who did the exact same thing.
This also speaks to the idea of having good people around you to protect you from your own dumb decisions. I guess if you can't even manage to do that you deserve your fate.

I wonder if Reeves will have any chirps for him?
I wonder if he got screwed on an investment or if he just blew cash like it was never going to end but his 2nd contract was 34.5M and he is in year 3 of a 7 year $49M deal. Crazy to be 26M in debt with those earnings.

The Athletic article says Chapter 7.
