Atkinson is a 9.72 buyout
You've got 2.93 in cap space
Ullmark on the way out gives you another 5
So 7.93 in total.
Leaving you short by 1.79?

So how I have it is Atkinson buyout cost 9.7 million. My cap drops from 89.23 to 79.53.

Current payroll is 86.3. Moving Ullmark makes it 81.3. Buying out Atkinson reduces payroll by 4.62 so 76.68. Under the cap by under 3 million

OK I processed the release. I had to credit back 290K as the site calculated the buyout wrong
But in the future please take care of these things a few days in advance of the deadline to avoid this type of confusion. It makes things on the deadline harder.

I was trying to be sneaky and keep him and Ullmark for as long as possible.

And just so it's clear the Red Wings are not throwing the playoffs! If you remember we made the big deal for Bert and Kempe with the Pens. That deal was to bring in two players with the same OV as Atkinson but could be used going forward. With Atkinson potentially being 5 million in dead cap next year it made sense to do this. You can only play one goalie at a time so it sucks to lose Ullmark (I see you Preds. Lurking over there) but in the end it has very little impact on our playoff roster and we have the cap to spend in the offseason.

It's an interesting gamble. I've always needed multiple goalies in the playoffs. Those OT games are killers.
