We are all so used to having a Queen, but when the day comes it will probably be 100 straight years of Kings.

This will be a tearjerker in season 8 of the crown.

Most of the world has grown up with the Queen and have never experienced change. Once she passes and Charles becomes King, I think people are going to lose the nostalgic connection and be open to reform. It's already being talked about in most Caribbean nations where she is the figurehead, as well as Belize, Papua New Guinea, and even Australia. Nations want their own identity based on their own accomplishments and achievements, except Canada for some reason.
I think the British Crown is going to lose a lot of support outside of Britain. The only thing that might extend it is if Charles abdicated in favour of William who is pretty popular and inherited his mother's softer image and goodwill. But even that is just prolonging the inevitable. There is going to come a point that the people don't want it, or even the Royals themselves. They have enough wealth and assets to set themselves up for generations without the added stress of royal duties and living in the public eye constantly being judged. Prince Harry seems like he is already at that point. I don't know how William feels about it, but being a famous royal killed his mother, so I can't imagine he loves it. He is a father and as a father myself, I would hate to raise children in that environment and the risks that come with it. Just look at how 99-year old Prince Phillip is being judged on the day of his death because of decisions family members made? Celebrity worship and demonization are equally as distasteful IMO.
I am sure they are good people for the most part, so I don't wish them any ill will. I just don't feel like they are an important institution in Canada and it would be better for our identity as a nation to move on past it.

Canada still has the monarchy because it matters so little. Changing the constitution to become a republic would be a huge step that only happens if there’s a powerful push from the public. I just don’t see enough people in Canada caring strongly enough one way or another.
And the last thing Harry and his wife want is to be anonymous private citizens. They very badly want to be global celebrities and influencers, but only on their terms with their own agenda. That’s not the British crown business model, so they had to strike out on their own.

I remember reading (probably on here) that getting rid of the monarchy in Canada is probably a lot more work than it's worth. Don't all of the treaties need to be renegotiated as they're all with the Crown?

Dismissing the Crown doesn't necessarily mean tearing down the parliamentary structure though, does it? I like republic structures personally, but you're right that it would be massive endeavor to have what would basically be a revolution, albeit peaceful.
Some countries elect presidents to represent their country on the international stage, but don't technically have lawmaking powers, and still have a parliament and Prime Minister to form the government.

It would be an incredibly complex process, and likely would have to be part of a much larger reorganization of Canada's relationship with its indigenous peoples.
Suffice to say, there would be a lot at risk. And it would take decades. But, it might be worth it.

I’m no lawyer. But I imagine it would at least involve opening the constitution. And Meech Lake showed us what’s likely to happen if we go down that road.

Didn't Australia just recently go through this debate, ending in a referendum to keep their own constitutional monarchy? I don't know anything about it, but I would expect that any course Canada would want to chart would end up looking very similar.

I'd say the exact opposite. With the monarchy, we're just taking British identity and none of our own.
US made an identity at least, as flawed as it might be.

I wish, 50 points would have been massive. So far this year I got Cloris Leachman, Hal Holbrook and Larry Flynt. Last year it was Kamala, Alex Trebek and Jerry Stiller. In 2019 it was Doris Day and Ginger Baker.
It's harder than you think to pick winners.

I’m not pretending. I had never heard of the guy until today. I’m guessing he’s a rapper but haven’t bothered to google him.

He has music that everyone knows, but people don't know they know it's DMX.
Also has a pretty good couple.of movie appearances as well.
