I always like to look at it in baseball terms - it simplifies the numbers and compensates for different numbers of games played. Currently, the Flames are:
2 games out of 4th - with 7 games remaining, head to head
2 1/2 games out of 3rd - with 4 games remaining
2 1/2 games out of 2nd - with 7 games remaining
to say they need to win all 4 games or their season is toast, is just silly.
All they need, in order to salvage the season and make the playoffs, is to start playing better (I don't believe that will happen though, unfortunately)

You're really going wild with the stats and observations today.
Thank you for getting these!

Again...I dont disagree. But it would make life a lot easier.

\While I find the stats interesting, it would be really helpful if guys that posted them also put either a league average or a comparable. Fore ex. Crosby. then we can see if these random numbers are actually good. Just a suggestion.
I can't help you with the comparables but here are the league averages:
Yeah man. I get that. But the Sens are the worst team in the League.
The. Worst.
The Vegas bookmakers would probably rank the Seattle Kraken as a better team than the Ottawa Senators and they dont even exist yet.
They're not even trying. These points should be the equivalent of trying to extract candy from a pinata with a Howitzer.
And frankly, we're not going all that hot-awesome against the better teams, so those teams are taking points from Ottawa and us.
I'm not saying its 'season over' but it is an indictment of the team.
The problem is that the Sens aren’t giving out free Sens points so much anymore.
So they had a 4 week period giving Edm and Wpg 8 out of 8 free points, and Vancouver 6 in 3 games, and since then, the Sens have won 4 of their last 6. 2 vs Mtl in OT/SO, one vs Toronto in OT and one vs Wpg
Seems like their coach has them playing better than before.
Ottawa’s coach should be circling these 4 games and saying that passing Calgary is in reach.

1. Hit the net more often - by this I mean stop shooting it wide on grade A opportunities and try not to aim at the goalies crest if you do hit the net
2. Stop dumping and chasing all the time - Our forecheck and team speed is rather poor at puck retrieval
3. Stop letting teams walk into our zone and playing keep away for 2 mins - I think last game there was a timer on Bennett and Hanifin because the Leafs had the puck on a string
I'd much rather play well and lose than play bad and win. At the end it all catches up
They seem like such a strange, twisted but well adjusted family.
"Go out there and kill each other boys! Be sure to have fun! We'll talk all about it over dinner!"
That being said....All Hail The Rat King! We must win!!

Homer: Hey! Apu just called. This Friday, Lisa's team is playing Bart's team. You're in direct competition. And don't go easy on each other just because you're brother and sister. I want to see you both fighting for your parents' love!
(Flicks light on and off.) Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Flames might be surprised by how good Ottawa is. 5-3 Ottawa is my guess
Do you think the players and coaches have failed to notice? I suspect everyone knows exactly how much better Ottawa is playing now than they were two weeks ago.

One of the things that hasn't been talked about much, with respect tot their style of play, is the ease with which they give up the zones.
When the opposition begins their breakout, the D rarely pinches. More often then not, they have backed up to center ice before the other team is above the circles. And they continue backing up until they are inside their blueline - effectively giving the opposition 2 zones with no effort.
EXACTLY the same thing Gulutzan did.

I really don't want to jump on the coach for every little thing, but unless he is hurt, it really is difficult to understand why he isn't in the lineup tonight.
He wasn't just ok last night, he was really good. Easily better than what we have seen from Nesterov and Mackey of late.

They're also taking WAY too many bad penalties. I'd put that on my wish list.
