NJ is a threat though, IMO. Lots of high profile young players (especially C's), a nice new arena, east coast, willing to spend, way less travel...

Well, technically a 15 year old arena now, lol. But I get your point it's fairly nice and modern.

Wow.
I thought it was newer than that. Time flies.

Tre could just put in a clause that says in the event Johnny is dissatisfied in the future years, he will get his first choice in trade requests? It handcuffs us ala Iggy to Pittsburg instead of Boston but that's what was in Iggy's contract - Iginla had a no-trade clause that allowed him to choose his destination.
Flames get Johnny and Johnny gets a lucrative 8-year contract and a promise to be traded to his choice if it ever comes to that?

Johnny will almost certainly get a full NMC in his upcoming contract.

Out on a limb here: Johnny signs with Flames on June 27, just to overshadow Game 7 of the Finals, which won't actually happen.

I say it'll be either July 5 or 6. Johnny will come to town for the parade after spending the 4th of July at home.
The Draft starts in Montreal on July 7, so they'll do the signing press conference on the afternoon of the 5th and Treliving will hop on the last flight of the day to Montreal.

You can say that for the downtown of the majority of the US big cities

Just think CSEC/Flames, if we had shovels in the ground in January like we were supposed to, that you could've had that bargaining chip in your arsenal.

This just isn't right. Most arenas are in a revitalized part of town (although I haven't been to Jersey's arena).
Most big US cities have some very vibrant downtowns now. I wouldn't call downtown the "bad part of town" in most cities I've visited.

Yeah, most cities have good areas and bad area. Personally, I never felt unsafe in downtown Detroit, but there are some neighbourhoods outside of downtown that I would never wonder through.
I have never been to the New Jersey side of Philly, but I was in Philadelphia briefly and drove through an area that makes Vancouver's downtown eastside look like the Hilton. But I am also willing to bet that there are some really beautiful areas in that city as well.

Yeah, most US downtown's are either fully gentrified or are on their way to being that... Sure, there are neighborhoods that I wouldn't walk around in but I wouldn't say those are downtown. Even places like Baltimore, the downtown and areas around Camden Yards are super vibrant with lots of unique bars and restaurants.
The idea of a burnt out downtown is really out-of-date. It would be like saying Victoria Park and the East Village are as bad now as they were in the 90s. Dated view.

I'm a pessimist by nature, so I'm pretty prepared for Johnny to head out East. I mean the draw of seeing what's out there are putting up a 115 point season, having a good playoff and being seen as a guy that's extremely coach able is a huge draw.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if he stays. But I'm a Flames fan, good players and star players leave.

This is just wrong. If anything the opposite is true. I live in NYC and have been to MSG, Prudential, UBS, and Barclays.
Newark just happens to be a complete dump

Probably in the 15-20 range if we’re including goalies and defensemen
