Default Shingles

Quick question for the CP brain trust about shingles for a new roof. Next season we will be reroofing and need to make a choice between asphalt, metal or other options. Are metal shingles worth the premium price? Any other options?

Yeah, I wondered if it would be about roofing or health matters!

My insurance company informed me they would give me a discount if I had metal or (rubber?) shingles. Of course, they informed me of this about 10 months after I replaced my entire roof with asphalt. If I ever get another hail claim I might look at paying the difference to upgrade, but since I had a brand new roof, I didn't bother looking into it more at the time.

I live in a ####hole neighbourhood and everyone around me is going metal and steel.

I wish I had have gone this route after getting hosed by a crap roofer

I guess you would have to consider the cost relative to how long you expect to live there.

I would think that it would not be one of those upgrades you would get a big return on like a kitchen, master bath or basement
