Don't you know that Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary and Vancouver are identical?

Winnipeg is more like Calgary than it is Toronto.

Seriously, Winnipeg is an awful place. I wanted the Jets to win the Cup because by god those people have to live in Winnipeg they ought to need the pick me up of a championship glow more then anyone... or at least get the parade.

He's absolutely right, though, that there's basically no chance that Trouba is going to wind up in Calgary or Edmonton. He's almost certainly going to the USA.

EDIT: Trouba isn't choosing a western Canadian city.

Trouba is also getting out of Winnipeg as fast as he possibly can. Pointing to the fact that he’s not going to another Canadian city is a veiled attempt to distract from the primary point here that Winnipeg is a wasteland.

Family and work. I suspect Troubas family situation will direct him to the states. Not Calgary.

In fairness, neither of these is complimentary.

I'd rather Calgary just be Calgary.

True, but the point remains. And in any event, Calgary's top 4 is set - why would they even want Trouba? If they were in the market, I'd rather get Dumba at $6M (and who no doubt would like to come to Calgary).

Toronto is always so overrated in these threads, I gather the posters have never lived there. Even if you have a lot of money Mount Royal or Artists Vew is a much better location then the Bridal Path.

Even from a traveling perspective, we are much closer to the mountains, west coast, and Hawaii. For driving vacations Buffalo is not exactly a thrill.

You’d be surprised how many people I’ve spoken too who LOVE living in Toronto. I can’t stand it, but it is a big attraction to a lot of people.

^^Yes, that is weird. They probably have not stayed long enough. I was reading an article about the Kawahi Leonard trade and the writer referred to Toronto as "coastal city", thats an example of the self delusion that is prevalent in TO. Yes they have beaches on Lake Ontario but they are usually closed because of the pollution and they tend to be very cold. Not exactly Waikiki....

Plenty of American players have fallen in love with this city. Gaudreau and Tkachuk and potentially hanifin are all big name Americans. Gaudreau signed a contract here in spite of plenty of rumors he wanted big city lights.

If you think Calgary = Winnipeg in any way shape or form you haven't lived in both. Winnipeg is closer to saskatoon than Calgary, and Calgary is just as cosmopolitan a city as 60-70% of American teams. Plus who knows, maybe trouba is a fan of recreational cannabis. He played in Ann arbor after all.

Regarding the top 4 being set, I would offer hamonic plus for him. Then the top 4 would be:
Gio-brodie
Hanifin-trouba

Because f the cap!

Toronto is a great city to visit, and would be fantastic to live in if you were rich but can suck if you aren’t.

Calgary is an alright city to visit, and doesn’t require you to be rich to enjoy living in (and doesn’t have a ton of extra benefits over other cities if you are rich).

Winnipeg is a city nobody has any reason to visit, and sucks.

I do think 5.5 for RFA Trouba on a one year contract in which he would still have one more year until he's UFA is a pretty steep price. I wonder if this doesn't reset the market a bit for a guy like Hanifan where the last RFA years are now worth more than they previously were. With Trouba you now have pretty good evidence of what he is. Perhaps with more PP opportunity he could develop a bit more of an offensive game, but at this point he's playing a shut down style role and adding in 20-30 points of offence.

I wonder what this does for some other guys when teams want to try the Bridge deal. Darnel Nurse for example, many in Edmonton think they should give him a Bridge deal at 3 million. Is he now thinking that he's 4 million on a one or two year deal?

Thats actually a very good point. If Trouba thought he was worth $7M then why shouldnt Nurse? Hes a year younger but his point production is lower, but you could argue that hes more important to his team.....such as it is.

Maybe he should be looking for $5.5M.

It would be hilarious to be able to point at McDavid for taking a discount but for Nurse and Draisaitl to have gobbled up the difference.
