Monahan could score 60 goals but unless the team has a goalie who can steal games, it won't matter

How does that equate to anything resembling "always injured"?

LOL. I want to hear his response for this.

I can't say I really care what the perception of Monahan around the league is. The man is a stud. He has ice running through his veins, and it clutch when it is crunch time. Of his 31 goals, 11 were game winners. Last year he was 3rd in the NHL for GWG.
Monahan is not a flashy player. A lot of good players try to win battles with complex plays, some players can be much more effective in more simple ways. Monahan takes care of business and makes it look boring.

I don't agree with him at all, but I suppose one response might be about Monahan always playing hurt.
But "never throws the body". No, he's too busy scoring goals. And his hits aren't exactly way behind other number one centres.

Not to mention all the game winning shootout goals that don't show up in counting stats to go along with his 10 OT goals.
I love how he quietly he goes about his business as a bonafide #1C, yet it's frustrating to see fans of this team underrate him so much.

In regards to Hamilton vs Hanifin, i think we see Hanifin have a deeper impact on the team this season. I dont think we will miss hamilton nearly as much .

I tend to agree. But it more depends on can Gio once again get the most out of TJ brodie.
Hanifin doesn't have to do much to make that second pairing better than it was last year.

We haven't had one since Nieuwendyk, and thus a portion of the fans don't know what one looks like.

Hell, even Darryl Sutter brought up to the media that Monahan has become a true #1 Centerman and yet so many Flames fans don’t give him the credit.
This interview was back in 2015 when Monny was just 20 years old:
With 31 goals, Monahan is 12th, right behind Jamie Benn and Zach Parise. Fifteen of his tallies have arrived after the second intermission.
Even Darryl Sutter, a legendarily hard marker, has taken notice.
“I don’t think Monahan gets enough credit in the league,” Sutter, coach of the Los Angeles Kings, says. “Everybody talks about the centremen in (the Western Conference) and they don’t talk about Sean Monahan. They should.
“He’s probably in that (Jonathan) Toews group, in term of all-around. Can play minutes, play in situations, play against top guys. All that. He’s probably in that group, as a young player.”

Even if that is so, it has no bearing upon your own trash.

We all speak trash here every now and then. He goes overboard trying to play a hero attacking posters.

Smith isn't a goalie who takes you on a deep playoff run, but if he can teach one of the younger guys some tricks this season and if one of Gilles or Rittich really steps up and takes over then we are in business and can go on a deeper run.
Smith just doesn't cut it for me over an 82 game season. but the rest of this core doesn't get enough credit and they will be very good the next few years.
|
Agreed, Smith was always clearly an affordable stopgap with a contract timed to end when the team hoped that one of its prospects would emerge as the next starter. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet, so I'm sure Treliving is working on a plan B.
