Its GM speak, do you expect him to torch his new acquisition? I am comfortable with Tre spinning events any way he wants, its all about results. As a manager, you set the overall direction but keep people guessing as to what your real intentions are.
Lets see how it all plays out.

Last summer we had Burke saying Bollig had to play more ... his total came in at zero minutes.

Did I miss the part where we gave Gazdic a 4x4 and a top line RW spot??
Who tf cares, this guy is gonna be AHL grinder meat, we didn't give up anything to get him I honestly don't understand the blowback. All I can figure is it's an irrational snap reaction by either people who hate tough guys or hate ex Oilers. Or you're a Stockton season ticket holder

I fail to see how that is a "dumb" comment.

At the very least Tre should be fired for those comments.
Probably should even be tarred and feathered as well.
Oh the horror.

it speaks volumes to how far we've come when GM statements like those are considered "dumb". Remember the Jay Feaster era? ...

Sometimes I wonder how much Brian Burke tells Treliving to bring in a goon. We all know Burke is old, and like all old people, they're stuck in their out dated ways.

I hope this is a green text statement.
Whether you like him or not, pretty safe to say that Burke has forgotten more about hockey than you will ever know.

No kidding. When all we have to complain about right now is Treliving signing and commenting on a bottom 6 minor league signing I think everything is going pretty well

lol, that's not a dumb comment, let alone multiple dumb comments. C'mon StreetPharm, you're smarter than that, you know a GM will always have a que card of positives to say about any new acquisition.
What you actually don't like is probably the signing itself, but don't worry about the comments or look into them too much. BTW if you are looking into them you should have interpreted that last line as very telling.
"That's his challenge" is pretty much saying "If he can earn a spot on the team then he'll have a spot on the team". Which is what he would say for literally any player coming into camp, no matter where they're expected to end up.

We are fortunate to have a GM with the smarts and balls to make the moves Treliving does. So far he has managed the cap better than most (not a single Flames makes more than 6.75M) and what I love is his ability to make solid trades.
It has been an incredibly entertaining 8 days to be a Flames fan. After a disgusting season he has really remade the team that makes them better right away and in the future.

BT is a solid GM in a number of areas but BTs greatest strength has been in cap management by signing players to reasonable contracts.
He has been able to convince his core to take reasonable deals to allow the Flames to collect the pieces needed to contend when the time is right.
Well today he cashed in that goodwill and used the cap space cushion he had built up on bonafide high end free agent, Neal.
Well sir you have now constructed a team that on paper is deep and versatile enough to contend.
Bravo BT! Well played!

I don't recall the Flames having a GM who makes the high number of significant trades that Treliving does. These aren't minor moves he's making here, he's adding legitimate top 6 or top 4 players every year. No fear with this guy, that's for sure.

Yeah. He identifies the weaknesses, goes out and does what he can to fix them. He does done a great job of that this off season. Not afraid at all to make moves. Good entertainment for us fans too. No GM is close to perfect, but more often than not, I'm happy with the moves Tre makes.

Yeah BT's cap management and trades are spectacular.
His FA signings have been hit and miss, but the first few were just to fill out a rebuilding roster and get to the cap floor (Hiller, Raymond, etc).
Brouwer has been his only really bad miss in UFA so far.
Drafting it's too early to tell, but there are loads of promising prospects in the system.
