Honestly didn't think we had a real shot at Hamilton and honestly thought if we did we would have to give up a lot more. Love having Treliving behind the helm.

Maybe it's just me, but there are so many proposals about trading Hudler. Why would you trade your leading scorer and a guy with a great reputation of mentoring younger players for a 1st rounder? I want Hudler in Calgary for the foreseeable future. Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler all day baby.

We are suddenly deep on the back end. One has to wonder if one of Russell or Wideman is traded.

Considering I'm just waiting to hear back from FanAttic to pick up my former Bouwmeester jersey which is currently being turned into a Russell, this is probably exactly what would happen.
And love the deal. I heart Treliving.

-Stable, wealthy ownership
-An winning, experience/respected Pres of Hockey Ops in Burke
-An cunning/shrewed GM in Treliving
-Coach of the year in Hartley
-Solid scouting with Button
Just goes to show what a strong, stable management group can achieve. Wasn't too long ago things looked quite bleak with those who ran the show. It's quite the turnaround this team have achieved, in such a short time frame.

After multiple quotes from Burke/Treliving talking about the work scouts put in and this being their "big day" I honestly think we will walk out of today with a 1st round pick still.

I think there should be a Brian Fricken Burke thread too. He took some heat for firing Feaster, but he did it cause he knew what he wanted. He saw something special in Treliving and he cleared the deck for him.
Listening to Burke talk about Treliving is like hearing a proud papa talk about his son, and this was BEFORE the Hamilton trade.

The scouts have been doing their magic in the later rounds too the last few years. We have 6 picks still today, I hope this number increases. Make it count Button and Co.
Good work Treiliving, I will visit a BP one more just cuz of this trade.

I think it's fair to be worried about overspending on defense. There are not a lot of $7M+ defensemen in the league, and we could soon end up having two, both with a relatively short track record for elite hockey. I think getting a fair deal from Giordano isn't that hard, but an offer sheet could tie Trelivings hands.

...that said, it's not something I'm overly worried about at this point. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, and we have movable assets.
Let's just say that before I'm ready to worship Treliving, I want to see how the long term plays out. That's how you judge GM's IMO.

some great moves by BT...
signing or not signing Hamilton doesn't diminish what a great move it was to make that trade

Long term, like Brodie's fantastic contract?
I get what you are saying, but what indication is that at this point to reserve judgement on Treviling?

We have 3-4 forwards who are bonafide first liners already. And not just a poor mans' first line either.
We have 5 defensemen who could all play top 3, and a great pipeline now thanks to Brad.
I'm not worried about shelling out the dough on defense. Pay them what they deserve, because having a solid defense is so important in the playoffs
