As mentioned, that would stand a good chance of ending his NHL career.
However, if he did refuse to report, the Oilers could probably apply to toll his contract - thus adding another year to it. No idea if the NHL would approve or if it would survive the inevitable NHLPA appeal though.

I'd rather have Panthers Smith over any version Elliott could present in 2019

Good trade.

I think it's a great trade for your boys.

Heh. Most of the Flyers forum think they overpaid given the cap hell Edmonton is in.

because it cost them nothing from their point of view.
Stolarz was gone from Philly as an UFA after this season.
They get a free audition of Talbot to see how he fits in with the team before trying to sign him.

Why? This way they can sample him for the rest of the year to see what he is outside of Edmonton.
And if they like what they see, they can start negotiating now instead of July, and likely get him at a better price.
And they were likely moving on from Stolarz anyway, so it cost them nothing.

Do you remember Anders Eriksson ?
Maybe you excluded him because he’s not still in the league.

Overpaid? It basically cost you nothing.
(which I guess can be considered overpaying when dealing with the Oilers)

Stolarz had two knee surguries last year and missed time this year with an injury. Could be a challenge getting him to 10 games

Gretzky getting credit for "staying firm" and not accepting Eliot instead. What a fan base... keep coming back for more.

Matheson on twitter thinks that these two trades means the Gretzky is perfectly fine for the full time gig. Just hilarious how quickly he’s been trained to slurp up Lowe’s tripe.

I know K Gretzky says he doesn't want to be Oiler GM, but why shouldn't he be considered. He held out for younger Stolarz rather than take Elliott. Gagner has more upside than Spooner.

You're setting such a low bar by applauding these trades and using them as the necessary body of work to give the guy your blessing.
Also speaks volumes to be speaking so prematurely about the trades to begin with. But "wait and see" has never been the Oilers or Oilers media's calling card, has it.

Damn, was hoping the Flames could scoop up Talbot. I think he's still got it. Just got a case of that oilers stink at the moment.

Went to take a peek at Phillys goalie stats. Did you know Talbots going to be the eight goalie to play for them this season?
Theyve had issues. But if Talbot turns it around, all that experimentation has paid off.

Going to be hard to find someone who's had a better day than Talbot.

In typical Oilers' managerial brilliance, they commit to Koskinen after 16 career games, effectively telling Talbot he's out. They then trade Talbot for Stolarz, who has played a grand total of 19 games.
They now have a goaltending tandem with a combined 22 wins and 55 games played in the NHL. In year 4 of Our Lord McDavid.
