I don't disagree that he is the 13th man and that's the best spot for him and the team. But I actually thought on the penalty that the Flyers player pinned his arm (like a guy holding a stick under his arm and looking for the hooking penalty).

GG is a better coach than Jason Maas.

Fact is, most teams are missing at least 1 regular forward most of the season, so it actually matters who the 13th guy is. I like Stajan, but he shouldn't be playing.

Plenty of guys have put up far better numbers than that in the AHL and not gotten an immediate shot

If the ATL's have shown me anything, it's that there's less than 31 people who should be a NHL head coach, and even fewer that don't drive their fanbase crazy with some habit/nuance.

That's taking it to far. The Oilers are No Good. Putting Gulutzan in the same league of the Oilers is flattering to the Oilers and straight up disrespectful to Gulutzan.

Also, Gulutzan isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Despite a slow start he has his team in the running for the division. If you believe the teams ahead of him will falter, then Gulutzan has his team in front of the rest of the division contenders at this point in the season.

Over the last 10 games the Flames, along with the Sharks, have set the pace for the division. The Flames have put distance on, or caught up to, every other team in the pacific division. And every team in the wild card race for that matter.

It's early and the division is tight but the Flames are right in the thick of things. Gulutzan's job is safe.

No man, thats just part of the job.

Stajan is a vet and Hathaway is a rookie, eating popcorn is part of Stajan's job now and Hathaway has to play.

In the AHL Hathaway gets minutes you dont need him riding the bench in the NHL getting less that 5-10 minutes a game.

They are in opposite ends of their careers. You dont want a rookie in the press box because hes not learning anything.

Fact is, there are cap consideration and roster limits which impact all asset decisions.

Cutting him out right at the start of the season doesn't make sense if it means taking on a cap hit of 2.2 million while he plays in Stockton. Maybe sometime in the back half of the season when you have a better idea where you stand with the cap would make more sense. Right now it doesn't.

I have found this site interesting in terms of gaining perspective on Flames coaches' success historically.

Dark years in there.

I did always think Playfair got the short end of the stick. Flames coaches don't stick around very long do they?

Funny enough, a two game win streak would make Gulutzan the 2nd winningest coach, in terms of PTS%, in Flames history. Who woulda thunk it?

Flames D Brett Kulak skated a lot longer than any other blue-liner today. I'm guessing D Matt Bartkowski draws in tomorrow against Blue Jackets.

So...

If the Flames win a game, it's in spite of GG.

If the Flames lose a game, it's because GG is awful at his job and should be fired.

If the Flames make the Playoffs, it's because our players ignored every thing GG tried coaching into them.

If the Flames lose in the Playoffs, it's because GG is awful at his job and should be fired.

If the Flames win the Cup, it's because our roster is full of legends who didn't need a coach to listen to.

If the Flames lose in the Finals, it's because GG is awful at his job and should be fired.

Am I doing this right?

I think Gulutzan is a good coach but it would make no sense to play Bartkowski. Maybe Kulak is a little nicked up.

It is interesting. GG is 4th all time in points % for coaches who have coached over 100 games.

Not bad.

I'll take statistics out of context for $200, Alex. Thanks to the shootout, every coach in the league today has more points available to them than all but two of the guys on that list that Gulutzan is ahead of. And given the difference in our team's talent level now vs. under Brent Sutter and Bob Hartley, he'd damn well better be ahead of them.
