Spector does realize the Oilers have missed the playoffs for 2 years straight right?

It's a ferrari that's broken down for 2 years and being glued together with bubble gum.

Nope, I don't think he does.

He is just an Oilers fan they pay to write positive stuff about them. His journalistic skills are on par with a HF fanboy, which he actually is.

Joking aside, Oilers' fans must be pleased that the org has filled gm/coaching jobs with respected vets. They have screwed up these 2 decisions for several decades now, whether these work remains to be seen, but still, on paper at least, it looks smarter than the previous decisions.

Weren't Chia and McLellan supposed to be respected vets?

Right?

If he just asked questions like: "You've developed a reputation of performing well with less than ideal rosters, so what kind of adjustments have you identified you would like to work on here first?" ...or something like that we'd get to the answer fans get excited about anyway.

The constant PR spins these 'reporters' commit to should warrant a "hockey gossip" tag or something wherever they write

The same thing was being said 4 years ago when they hired Chiarelli and McLellan.

On paper, Chiarelli and McLellan were more-impressive hires than Holland and Tippett.

Dave Tippet’s last five seasons as a coach in the NHL look very pedestrian. But I guess i’ll Have to suffer through the narrative of “veteran successful defensive minded NHL coach teams up with GM of a former dynasty” being pounded into my brain ad nauseam by these media shills.

This is going to be brilliant. Remember when the Oilers were this 'high-flying super offence' team reminiscent of the 80s winning games 6-5?

Just let me be sure here.

So...their goaltending is bad.

Their defence is worse.

Their forwards after the 'Big 3' are basically AHL washouts.

Oh yes. This has 'disciplined defensive play' written all over it.

I don't know...
Chiarelli/McLellan looked very similar to me.
Not necessarily that they were similar, but just that they were also respected vets in their respective roles.

When Tippet didn't get his way in his management fight, he basically mailed in half a season of coaching.

So congrats Oilers is he going to quit on the job before the Oiler players or a little bit after.

I like Tippett but don't think it's a good fit, but also they have bigger issues than the head coach anyway

He's a great fit for a team with no stars who may be able to overachieve..

Drais and McDavid are going to be lost in his system.

When will they learn that coaching is not the problem?

It's too bad the Oilers used a big national company instead of edmontonjobshop.ca to find their head coach:
