This one sounds awesome. Finally that stuff after the whistle will be part of the game.
Quote:
"Not only can you hit guys after the whistle, but now there are going to be penalties after the whistle if you go a bit too crazy like slashing a guy from behind into the boards.

Quote:
"Another thing is that if you shoot the puck at my goalie after a whistle, my tough guy will come knock you on your ass.

NHL10 looks to be promising so far. I like the post-whistle scrums and the ability to line match now. Can't wait for more updates.

I didn't really have a problem with the fighting like others did, but that is pretty cool. I've always found the fighting to be more of a gimmick in these games though, not actually worth the serious attention so many have demanded. Ah well.
There are some very interesting tidbits coming out today. I love the (re)addition of post whistle scrums. There was a version a few years ago where the D would push you around if you got too close to the goalie and it made for some pretty cool moments. Very supportive of penalties after the whistle. I've always enjoyed shenanigans post-whistle, but they did always feel overly arcade-ish.
I thought this was really cool (from the article):
Quote:
I picked a fight with Ovechkin the other day and Brashear came in and checked me down and started a fight with me, so I learned not to go after Ovechkin after that.
|
Again, I'm not too sure how much that will effect the overall gameplay, but that is a neat addition.

Have they announced what platforms this will be available? No love for the PC and Wii I'm guessing. If that is the case, please put me out of my misery now so I won't bother getting too excited for this release.

The interactive crowd sounds really promising, I also saw our first Female crowd member in the pictures provided
Jobo - I don't know if your allowed to answer this yet but did EA include the C of Red and other playoff crowds? Or at least update the crowd so most of it is either wearing red and flames jerseys instead.
nvm read the ESPN article, sound really exciting!

They have to some kinks to work out in authenticity...Marc Savard in the corner?
Looks good though...the crowd dynamics/clothing/faces IMO are the biggest/easiest update to make it more authentic (too late to have the GM Place rubbish toss?), as is the after whistle royal rumble, in addition to the usual little tweaks.
That and computer defensive AI to recognize/stop the online goal line cross crease (goalie using a poke check or not sitting on the goal line the whole time?) pass and/or jam job.
Nothing better then beating a team who's entire offense ability is carrying the puck along the boards until the bottom of the circle and then a hard cut to the short side post, looking to get a bounce of a defenseman, or to the guy streaking in on the far post, or trying to confuse the goalie and jam it between the legs in the modern day "up down up down b a b a select start" cheat.

I'm sort of on the fence about the post-whistle penalties. It was pretty fun destroying the occasional player with a post-whistle hit, OTOH the realism might be nice.

I just hope they work some of the kinks out of the BaP mode. Some stuff drives me insane. On the top line and go one game without a point? Demoted to the second line. Get a shutout as a goalie? B stats. I love it anyways, but if they can fix that up a bit I'll be beyond happy. Oh, and quit making me trip everyone when I'm trying to tell a teammate to shoot.

The interference calls from when I'm trying to one time pucks drive me insane. I get at least 2 or 3 a game.
