Bring the schlemcat home? If nothing else, for the shootout?

The Flames have lost nine consecutive shootouts, so it might be worth a shot.

That's who he is all right. Though until last year he was a 10-15 goal guy with some regularity. So that's not zero offence. It's pretty good fourth line and average third line production.

While I have no issues with the team handing out PTO's to these players DSP seems like a pretty redundant player with Lucic on the roster.

Rinaldo is actually the guy I would like the most out of all those PTOs. The Flames need that agitation factor more than anything and he brings that. It’s time people admit that hockey is, at times, a dirty game. Rieder is butter soft, and while Smith-Pelley is built like a tank, he is a tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff. He doesn’t really play a big game.

Treliving had also mentioned some news might be coming out in the next 24 hours about the back-end in the interview at the Charity Golf tournament. I wonder what that is about?

Yeah he mentioned a move at forward and one at D too. No clue what those might be? Maybe early extensions for Hamonic and... I can't think of a forward.

Maybe a long-term Andersson extension at a cheap cap hit (Like the Preds have done with their d-men in the past). One can hope.

I would expect another PTO on D, and I wonder if a Frolik move is coming?

He was asked about upcoming PTOs, but this was yesterday morning prior to these 4F PTOs being announced. So it might just be another D PTO getting announced shortly.

I'm not sure if Treliving would allude to a trade before it is finalized, honestly. More like a signing being processed, a PTO or an extension (more likely)

Any recent examples of PTO's that have remained in the league 1 year after (ie. many may get a contract for a year, but how many get another one)?

As to the post about past connections, I think it's about doing favours for agents as much as anything.

Chiasson with the Oilers last year would be an example. PTO turned to a contract. Re-signed with them this summer.
I guess Pirri would also be a relatively recent example. PTO for Vegas in 2017-18. Ended up signing and playing in the minors mostly that year. Spent 2018-19 with the Knights in NHL.

Further back, Brendan Morrison for Calgary as well. He had a PTO with Vancouver in 2010-11. Ended up signing with Calgary and re-upping with the Flames a year later as well.

I'm sure there are more, but yeah probably not in a major capacity most of the time.

Can't forget Versteeg either, but injuries derailed his season/NHL career when he re-signed for one more year with Calgary

Stempniak had a really good PTO with the Devils a few years back and turned it into four more seasons, eventually winding up with Boston last year (on another PTO, funny enough).

Could possibly see DSP getting a contract due to the possible RW gap, but the issue with him has always been the stretches of inconsistent effort through the regular season. When he's on he's an okay checking utility player who is surprisngly disciplined but when he's off he's a liability. He's also a great teammate in the room/off the ice.

Would love to see Rieder signed only to have a wonder season to rub in the Oilers' face, but realistically I don't see a fit.
