Your Favourite Play-by-Play and Colour Guy Combo? (Non-Flames)
After having to watch 3..THREE!!! consecutive games with Hughson and Simpson calling games for Da Leafs it got me to thinking...who actually likes these guys? They suck!
So who is your Top Broadcast team?
You can't say the Flames PBP team because they are your team. (unless you aren't a Flames fan)
But for me I like your PBP team
Ball is great but Hrudey is what puts your PBP team over the top for me. So insightful and likable. Wish the Leafs had someone like that.
I'll probably get blasted for this, but my all time favourite is still Bob Cole.
I don't care if he can't say Kotkaniemi or is a bit behind the play. Anytime I hear his voice I can't help but think of all the memorable calls of his over the years. Especially in my childhood. Still can give me chills thinking of calls in the gold medal game in Salt Lake city. JOE SAKIC! He's a legend and the game will be worse off without him after this year. Long may he live.

I'm more concerned about play-by-play over color. A good pbp person can do both.
Color defininately adds, but so does the in game reporter (I do like Millions in that role).
Play by Play at a high level is tough, the system is set up that you call a local broadcast, be it a junior team, minor league or even the local tv or radio broadcast of an NHL team. Then if you make the leap to national TV all of a sudden you have to be impartial.
For disinterested teams that's not so bad, but your childhood favourite team or the team that you built your career with would be tough. Look at Hughson, one of the best EXCEPT when calling the Canucks. Why? It's hard to turn off, especially having been trained that a Canuck player in the box = PK and opposition player = PP.
This doesn't really get to the crux of the topic, but I like to babble while enjoying my morning coffee

Ralph Strangess and Darryl Reaugh in Dallas, hands down are my all time favorite full time (call games for one team) duo. Unfortunately Ralph moved on a couple of seasons ago.
