Nice dad joke though. Who else but Emma STONE could play ROCKY? Sylvester Stallone perhaps?
BTW, just finished reading the book. Absolutely fantastic and as good a read as The Martian, which is one of my absolute favorites. Hoping the movie turns out at least as good as The Martian did.
Next up I'm going to give Blood Feud: Detroit Red Wings v Colorado Avalanche by Adrian Dater a read. Gotta mix it up with some non-fiction every now and then.

haha...well I'm a dope... but I figured it was something hollywood would actually do to add a romantic angle to things.
Great read I agree... hoping for a great adaptation.
Finished Station Eleven - good book, but the ending felt a little cut off? Sort of like Kim Stanley Robinson's Aurora...really enjoyed it, but felt the end didn't have the resolution I would have liked.
Also cracking open Dune for the first time in 20 years now to refresh my memory prior to part 2 dropping

I just want to give a plug to The Sleeping Car Porter by Suzette Mayr. Suzette is a native Calgarian and an old friend. This novel won the most recent Giller prize, an incredible accomplishment for Suzette.
If you feel like supporting a native Calgarian and an incredible person, give it a try.

It's a combination of the subject matter being a bit dense with a ton of info on English politics at the time, me being a slow reader and just generally also being tired lately, so I only get through about 5-15 pages a day.
I'm itching to get onto something a bit lighter, some graphic novel or murder mystery.

This is basically where I'm at with Gravity's Rainbow. Exactly half way through, and enjoying it well enough, though it is indeed every bit as exasperating and overwritten as I was promised but yah. Something shorter and a little easier to digest will be next after this one.

Did I get the recommendation to read Hyperion from someone here?
Holy ####. This book is STRANGE. Creepy. Eerie.
Good, but wow. I thought GEOD was out there.

I like Henry Winkler so I thought I'd give his autobiography a try.
Thin, no depth of information, or much of anything interesting, and boring as all hell.
I've already taken it back to the library and maybe got halfway through it.
I do NOT recommend.

I read "My Effin' Life" by Geddy Lee since I'm a screaming Rush fan . He goes into great detail about his parents' experience as Holocaust survivors. Not at all what you'd expect in a rock autobiography.

Gene Simmons’s mom was a survivor. He was born in Israel.

What are you reading?
After the recent discussion about The Big Short, I rewatched the movie and decided to check out the book. I don’t think there is much the movie didn’t cover. It was pretty faithful to the source. Some names were changed for the movie, and some of the financial terminology and systems were a little easier follow along with, but I think if you saw the movie, you could probably skip the book.

If you want to read a good hockey book, I suggest Curtis Joseph's book, Cujo: The Untold Story of My Life On and Off the Ice.
I really gained a lot of respect for everything he accomplished after reading it. It's a few years old, but worth the read if you missed it.

Holly was one of the first Stephen King books in a long time that I shoved off after a couple hundred pages... ya, no thanks.
Otherwise, I very quickly read through The Armour of Light (Follett's fifth instalment of Kingsbridge), and it was absolutely fantastic. Was not a big fan of A Column of Fire, and thought Armour was up there with the first two. Really good stuff.
About halfway through The Nightingale at the moment and enjoying it. WW2 heroine spy novel- which seem to have become quite popular in the last 10 years?

Currently going through King’s work chronologicallyReached up to Pet Semetary so far.
Also doing the same with Michael Crichton’s work and working my way through Sanderson’s work.
I’m enjoying the journey so far.

I’m about to start Sanderson’s Mistborn series. I won’t be reading all of his books but there seems to be more than enough in the Cosmere universe to keep me going for awhile.

There is a pretty handy flowchart on the cosmere universe that I follow while making my way through his works.

Mistborn is the first Sanderson series I read, and it remains my favourite, though the Stormlight Archive series is absolutely fantastic. Anything Cosmere i would recommend for sure.

Just finished "The Troop" by Nick Cutter. Ewwww. Been a long time since a book actually made me feel sick to my stomach, but this one pulled it off. Reasonably well-written horror but probably one to avoid if you are at all squeamish.

Reading my old Hardy Boy books I've had since the 1970's. Still have about 20 of them.
Thought to do that one more time before getting rid of them.
My kid is a girl and also has no interest, so no use keeping them around taking space.
