I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Much of string and M-theory in a nutshell. There is plenty heated debate in scientific circles whether it should even be called theory or not. Lots of mathematics, with very little chance of much of the theories ever being able to be experimentally verified.

A follow up paper seems to poke some holes; using a better model that fits observational data results in observations being consistent with assumed dark matter densities.

Kind of what was expected, similar to the faster than light neutrino thing, always good to wait to see how things work out when something that supposedly overturns the apple cart shows up.

And cosmology is one area that's had its apple cart successfully overturned a good number of times in the past few decades.

Live stream of the SpaceX Dragon docking with the ISS. First private vehicle to do so.

SpaceX Dragon is a cool name. Almost as cool as Icarus from Sunshine, but that one kind of has a grim meaning.

That was awesome, I had butterflies during the capture, very cool seeing the Canadarm come in to view as well. Best comment from the live chat "All of this work for Canada to get the promo spot... wtf." made me chuckle.

Default The Origins of Us

I'm unsure if anyone has linked to this before, but a few weeks ago I stumbled upon this excellent BBC three-part series about human anatomical evolution entitled The Origins of Us

all three parts are available in hi-def on youtube:

It is a must watch.

Text, I don't know if you've heard of "Inside Nature's Giants" but it's a series my wife and I are really enjoying.

I am so utterly addicted to documentaries.

PZ Meyers btw is here in Iceland, get to spend the next 3-4 days hanging with him and showing him around Iceland.

16 year old solves centuries old math riddles.

No doubt the riddle and equation would be beyond my comprehension.
