Default Conroy Press Conference: UFAs could not be re-signed

17 min 15 seconds
"I just couldn't get them signed. Tried up to a week ago, couldn't do it...I had to move em along"

I think that puts the nail into the coffin about if any of these players really wanted to stay or even potentially come back.

While I appreciate Conroy having a fair price in mind, I am a little disappointed that if given the choice, he would have kept this core together.

Should add they want to sign Shilly but things are still up in the air with him about even continuing to play hockey overall.

Long and Short, IF Kylington wants to keep playing hockey after this season, you can be certain it's going to be for the Flames.

But from the sounds of it, he's not out of the woods yet in terms of his life choices.

I think Conroy did alright. Looking at the kinds of deals that were made at in the last couple of days, I can see why Conroy took the Tavev and Hanifin deals when he did. It doesn't seem likely that there would have been better offers today.

Glad to hear they've already approached Kylington's side for an extension

UFAs could not be re-signed (without overpaying to the extreme) is the full response

sorry if you don't want to sit through the whole thing, it's at 17 min, 5 seconds (can't seem to do a time link on CP). Had a typo of 7 min originally.

Conroy got lucky
Lindholm and Hanifin are going to have disaster retirement contracts
Tanev maybe ok but he is old

Conroy says he won't let players walk for free, commits to getting younger early on, calls young players up and gives them prominent roles, trades all of the UFAs in question.

Fans "oMg tHiS OrG iS SO ComMiTTeD tO bEinG MiD ThEy ReALly trIed to SigN thEse GuyS And PlayerS FoRceD ThEiR HANDs"

It's called due diligence. You don't just commit to not signing guys and never speak contract. That gets you an even worse reputation around the league.

I didn’t get a “not out of the woods” sense from that at all, but rather that they’re putting zero pressure on him, are letting him just enjoy playing hockey, and will wait until he’s ready to talk about next year before they get down to it.

Really? When Conroy said "we are waiting to see what he wants to do and to make sure he's happy". Sounded exactly like what I described. There was more to it as well. Definitely didn't think I was reading between the lines there and saying he's not out of the woods.

Sounded exactly like they don't even know if he wants to keep playing hockey.

Your spin was overly negative verbiage from this impartial outside perspective. Why describe it as anything but what Conroy actually said instead of colouring it with your own interpretation?

Why were we trying to sign these guys last week? What is the plan here? Is there even a plan?
