Get rid of Sigalet too. The Flames may have been acquiring past-their-prime goalies, but Sigalet isn't making them any better, so why not go in a different direction on that front (as well as getting better goaltenders)?

In the radio pre-game show, the specifically were talking about how during this extended break between games, Smith was working with Sigalet; but we aren't seeing any results tonight, anyway.

If it's only a few games, I agree. But if Johnny is out for an extended period of time, that's gonna hurt us badly.

Anyone know how long he was out the last time he had wrist problems? If this is a broken hand/thumb/finger, I assume that would keep him out two or three weeks at least, I'd think.

When he was directly responsible for the sequence that lead to the icing, then lost the draw, then lost the man who scored the goal, that’s pretty blatant.

Missing a wide open net. Blatant.

Lazily sticking his stick out because he’s too lazy to take two strides, in the other teams face off circle, and causes a PP and GWG against, that’s blatant.

This will be the “pile on Mike Smith” thread, but if Peters is counting on Backlund and giving him responsibility to play 1/3 of the game worth of ice time, he can’t be constantly thrown out there if he’s intimidated or scared or whatever, to directly lead to the situations which let his teammates down and resulted in the situation that lead to the last 2 goals ina 3 -2 game... and should certainly not be continued to be thrown out there by the coaches once making those mistakes.

Wrong. The only goal that wasn’t completely on him was the second. First goal was because of his Winnebago sized five hole and horrible puck retention. The third goal was entirely on him and his piss poor positioning.

I think it was six or seven games. Like I said above, the Flames have played without Gaudreau a handful of times before and generally have been okay.

*EDIT*

10 games. The Flames went 5-4-1.

Like there shouldn’t be this much room short side for Getzlaf if Smith is doing a better job of getting square. And look how far his right pad and blocker are outside of the short side post - what’s he covering there?

Definitely saveable.

Absolutely not routine.

They need to give rittich both starts on the weekend. Smith starts and it will cost us breaking .500 on the road trip. Need to see if rittich can handle the back to back. Smith was no good.

Do you think that’s a pattern with Backlund though?

If Gaudreau is out because of Getzlaf slash I might have to take a break from the NHL. Stuck in Toronto so didn’t see it but furious right now.

So odd to see people defend Smith to any degree at this stage.

You can’t honestly believe he is a capable NHL goalie at this stage. He was significantly worse than the goalie at the other end of the ice tonight.

This is on Treliving to fix this before losses like tonight start piling up.

gotta agree that I think the Smith experiment needs to die now. Just roll Rittich and see how it goes.

Any puck that goes toward smith is terrifying. Below the goal line, from the point, from the wall. Complete opposite of Rittich. Who I feel confident even if the other team has it in the slot.

Hopefully this could be a Hellebyuck/Mason situation, in which the anointed starter is completely bypassed by season end.

Good lord...this is the biggest Smith apologist post of the night. There is no way that shot should have gone in. 99% of NHL goalies stop that shot because they play the shooter, trust their defender to clear the front of the net and don’t cheat. That is a just putrid goaltending.
