The thing is, Gaudreau has missed time several times in the past, and the Flames have always been fine without him. Last year they were awful for the couple games he was out, but that had a lot less to do with his absence than the tail spin that had engulfed the team already.

Wow. That’s a bad take.
If anything the only one that should have actually gone in is Getzlaf's. The first one is certainly a routine stop and the second one is just brutal rebound control.

This is really mind boggling, is there no one other than him is better?

Does anyone know what Smith's numbers are since last year's injury?

I'd rather see Mason McDonald in net right about now.

He looked exactly like he has all year...lucky the Ducks missed the net so much because those would have gone in too

I can accept that goal at least, those first two he let in though clearly deflated us in the 1st. Especially the 1st one, that will dishearten your group pretty fast.

I can understand the sentiment of sticking up for the guy to a certain extent but when your a top team in your division yet your starting goalie has:

- GAA: 3.71 (54th league wide)
- SV%: 8.71 (61st league wide)

How can you not scrutinize?

Smith got beat short side and would’ve had the save if he’d have hugged his god damn post! Christ almighty he drives me insane with his positioning. It’s almost like they’ve moved the face off circles or hash marks and he can’t figure it out. I literally have no other explanation for his god aweful positioning.

At least you'd expect the horrid goaltending. I'd be all for signing any ufa goalie at this point.

I’m hoping Janko comes alive for the rest of the season. He was quite determined after his goal, driving the net.

Czarnik was good too I thought- some looks but he’s got to finish. Bennett impressed me. Needed a little more from top line as well as Tkachuk and Neal but they weren’t bad just ok.

I thought Valimaki was pretty good as well as Andersson. Tough building to play in against heavy players and terrible ice.

CGY had chances but couldn’t bury. Miller is was good. They lost but they were better team

I suggest you watch it again. When getzlaf picks it up, he’s at least ten feet away from Smith with no one in front of him.

He’s constantly in bad positions. He’s lost it.

Wow. That’s a bad take.
It’s not routine or a soft goal, and it was a defensive breakdown, but it’s certainly saveable.

He makes it look like a harder save than it was too due to his inability to get square to the shooter.

Like there shouldn’t be this much room short side for Getzlaf if Smith is doing a better job of getting square. And look how far his right pad and blocker are outside of the short side post - what’s he covering there?

Getzlaf has the puck to his right and Smiths shoulders are still parallel and facing directly up ice. He’s just not getting square to shooters at all this year and it’s leading to him looking like he’s flailing at shots.

Last season, after returning from injury in March of last year, he had an .880 sv%. Combine that with this year, and it doesn’t look pretty.
