It's fairly well known that the poster on Reddit works in some capacity with the flames or is related to someone on the team in the know. He has been right too many times before anyone else.

he's been doing that his whole career. I think almost all of you knew that's what you were getting when you got him.
nobody should be shocked about his behavior.
you'd think he'd be smart enough to rein it in when he's sucking.

Allen has 2 years left on his deal, makes about the same money as Smith and is almost 10 years younger.
I'd like to think a Smith for Allen trade would make sense to both teams but the Flames take on the risk of him not regaining his form for 2 more years.
Might be a risk worth taking, and the Blues might just want him off the books. That being said I don't know who St. Louis has in waiting that they can bring up but they may be a more attractive landing spot for a guy like Bobrovsky than say Calgary would be. But now I'm way off topic.

Allen makes no sense for the Flames. He's just as awful as Smith.
Really gotta wonder how Sigalet still has a job though. Should have been gone after 2016. Or the 2017 playoffs. Or the second half of 2018. Three different pairs of goalies, three identical results.

Holy crap that cross-check on Gaudreau is infuriating.

^ Just pointing out how we are stuck with Smith unless its a trade for someone else's Smith.
Related: I saw a few people here (and Twitter) mentioning Smith and his belly flop move last night. Worth pointing out that Hiller started doing that in Calgary too. I'm not going to pile on Sigalet but that has to be one of the things he teaches goalies here. Neither did that in previous stops.

Hahaha! What?
I acknowledge that he is playing poorly now, but Smith for a long, long time was a very acrobatic goalie who routinely made ridiculous saves on what looked to be sure goals.
I should not be surprised with how often it happens, but I am astonished with how readily people make things up to validate their thoughts or feelings.
So, in summary:
• Mike Smith has been an excellent goalie for years.
• He is not playing well now, and looks nothing like how he did even last year, to say nothing of his larger body of work.

1). I love Smith's intensity and accountability he demands of himself and his teammates.
2) smith is struggling. There is no doubt.
3) the way gaudreau was hunched over and wincing I bet it's the acrosscheck and his ribs that are at risk. I hope the crosscheck is followed up by the league. I doubt it though.

So true. Like the bellyflop thing. People were saying "he does that every time". He does do it sometimes. But, when he does it, it's on a save. The soft ones he's been letting in are when he makes himself too small and compact., and thinks he has it.

At the end of the day, even with Smith's two bad goals, the Flames played well enough to win going away. In a perfect world, this was a 5-1 game. With those two goals, it's 5-3. That's just assuming the Flames cash in on about 1/3 of the great chances they didn't pot. Say, Backlund's open net, Lindholm's breakaway.

Time for Jeopardy!
Player 1: Alex, I'll take NHL Notables for $1,000!
Alex Trebek: This goaltender is pretty much responsible for the Calgary Flames NOT being 13-2-1.
Player 1: Who is Mike Smith?
Alex Trebek: Sad, but true.

He doesn't look like the Mike Smith from the first few months of the year.

and they have gained probably the same amount with great goaltending. It all balances out.
It is a long season. If the current mishmash season is them stumbling and doing poorly than I will take it. They are still tied for first in the Division.

Did any media ask about an update on Gaudreau?
It seems like there has been no mention of him being hurt (unless I missed it), so maybe it's nothing?

I didn't notice a cross check. Just the two-handed baseball swing slash to his hands. But either way, didn't look good at all.

9-6-1 is pretty impressive for a team with lackluster goaltending.

Mike Smith is horrible. I can’t believe he even starts games anymore! 3.66 GAA and .872 save percentage? Brutal. The Flames should move on and quit waiting for him to “ come around”. He’s done.
