Having a dashcam when subjected to a fraudster's antics makes me happy. I had a person cut me off and slam on their brakes. Initially, I was deemed at fault, until the police and the insurance company reviewed the recording. I have probably paid $1500 for various dashcams over the last 10-15 years, worth every penny.

Been thinking about getting one. Any recommendations that combine simplicity and low cost?

As with all things, it depends. Budget and features. Most cameras aren't complete trash anymore. Just follow your budget and reviews on Amazon and you're likely to be OK.

For older cars, there are ones that have android or apple air play integrated. You just replace your rear view mirror with them or attach it to your dash. Costs around $180-220 but you get additional features of being able to stream music and maps etc. that you may not have had before.

For bare bones basic, always options in the $40-90 range. Depends on size, profile, durability etc. that you want. Just type it in on Amazon and look at the recommended ones.

There's other options that have both front and back, or just back or wireless back up camera or wireless transfer of clips to your phone etc. Similar to the old car situation, for $60-140 maybe you add an extra feature that you didn't have previously.

Micro SD cards wise for storage. Just get the largest possible of a reputable brand that the dash cam can take. I bought cheap and I was replacing cards every few years due to corrupted cards (I think due to our temp swings). Paid 20-30% premium for the good cards, chugs along for 5+ years no problem. You don't want to be in a situation where the recordings would have been more than its weight in gold, but the card was corrupted and thus the dash cam was not recording at the time.

My boy taking his first stiches in a rugby game.

Took a knee to the eyebrow, did him for 12.

It is a right of passage.

Did some family trips the last couple of weeks. New baby in the family. Wasn't sure how that would turn out as I'm becoming a curmudgeon. I figured out that I enjoy being a gruncle. It was nice having a baby around again.

Update; another thing about this situation that makes me happy is my car was written off, which is fine I have (had) 2 vehicles for myself. The vehicle written off was a 2015 GMC Terrain, I figured it was worth $6000, but I was offered $18,000 today! **Start the car! Start the car!**

As for an affordable dashcam, I like the Vantrue N1 Pro. I have a GKU 4K/2.5K 2-channel camera now and it's very nice.

Dang, think about CP 10-15 years from now when we are all grumpy ass curmudgeons.

We'll have to have multiple gear grinder threads to keep up with all the bitching and moaning.

Rename Off-Topic to Old Man Yells At Cloud.

High school rugby was always good for that. The season coincides with grad and there were always a few girls sporting stiches, black eyes, and casts in their grad pictures. Although one poor guy on the boys team missed grad with a caved in eye socket (no eyesight loss thankfully). My daughter could barely make her way to and across the stage to receive her diploma it was sprained so badly.

It’s the best! Went with my 4 year old grandson to the local fair last weekend and he went on rides for the first time. He had so much fun! Such a good day.

He was diagnosed with Autism just before his third birthday, my son and his wife have had a lot of struggles and grief with this situation since diagnosis. The wait list for Autism Services in Ontario is over 60,000 children long, so the prospect of any significant help for him is slim to none. He absolutely loved his first year of school and has made a lot of progress, though he will unlikely ever be able to live independently. He’s just now starting to call me Gramma regularly and it’s just the best thing ever. He’s such a sweet happy little boy. The absolute light of my life.

Nice bird.

To be fair, I had a $15 Bratwurst at the Stampede that was really good, so there's that.

A couple of months ago in the RGMG thread I posted about trying to contact a certain European consulate in Vancouver to obtain a visa. After an absolutely exhausting and stressful couple of months trying to contact them we finally back doored our way in for the 'interview' process. Once there the process was straight forward and they were very pleasant to deal with. My son's visa arrived this week, with three weeks to spare. Most stressful part about that was crossing our fingers Canada Post would not lose his passport in the mail. That make me (and our entire household) happy.

But what a stupid process to go through.... Straight out of the 80's it seemed.
