LOL I can't wait to see how badly they lose tonight. Without those 3, their top 6 is Tkachuk, White, Ryan, Boedker, Tierney and Pageau (or Zack Smith). Brutal

It is just such a myopically short-sighted argument because "the foreseeable future" might not extend beyond the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Uhh Kylington is currently 3rd on the depth chart? Unless he's counting Brodie as a LD?

Zuccarello shouldn't return Kylington, let alone Kylington and a pick. Pinder is criminally underrating Kylington. The asking price per LeBrun/Mckenzie on Zucc is a 2nd and a prospect.
Kylington is the #6 defenceman on the 2nd best team in the NHL - and he's only 21.

Yeah lots of time to cross that bridge with Kylington.
Personally if are going to move one of the young d-man assets (Hanifin, Kylington, Valimaki) they should be doing it for a younger forward of the same pedigree and not for a rental.
Having a steady pipeline of good young players is how you win in the NHL today.
I have no problem with the Flames using their assets in a deal but they should be used for long term pieces and not just a short term rental.

Valimaki moving forward. He's the future #1 LD.

I don't get why we want to trade Kylington at all.
Rookie D men are hard to predict, who truly knows whether Valimaki or Kylington is the heir apparent? we don't. thats why you want to keep both around.
Gio is getting older and if he wins or is even a finalist for the Norris this year, his value will never be higher than it will be this coming offseason, and I know many of you will disagree but the flames should consider trading him following this season.
I would be very hesitant to move kylington or valimaki for anything, considering if you look at our D core in 2 years and youre looking at a Left side of Hanafin, Valimaki ... we'd instantly be weaker.

Toss up - Hanafin is very established and people forget how young he is - basically the same age as most of the D prospects.

oh no. It means these guys actually have to sit through a Sens game for no reason.

The Winnipeg Jets are once again well represented at an Ottawa Senators game. Assistant GM Larry Simmons, director or pro scouting Mark Dobson and pro scout Mark Dobson are all in NJ tonight.

Right. Imagine an alternative timeline where we trade Gio because of our "heir-apparent" Dion Phaneuf...

I can see Winnipeg outbidding everybody for one of the big fish. They have the assets for it, and more importantly they seem like they are in need of a shakeup.

Just because a player has maximized his value, that does not mean it is a good idea to trade him. It is way, WAY too early to start contemplations of moving the Flames Captain. I personally hope he retires with the only team for which he has ever played.

And who cares about LD vs RD
Brodie is a LH d playing the RD right now.
We need 7 d-men long term. Right now we only have 8 d-men with NHL experience that have contracts past this season, and only 5 with contracts past next season.
Giordano - UFA - 3 seasons
Hanifin - UFA - 5 seasons
Brodie - UFA - 1 season
Hamonic - UFA - 1 season
Stone - UFA - 1 season
Andersson - RFA - 1 season
Kylington - RFA - 1 season
Valimaki - RFA - 2 seasons
It's likely that at least 1 of the two UFA's after next season re-signs, and that two potentially get traded this offseason at the draft. Really the long jam could be cleared up as soon as this draft, and is for sure cleared up by the 2020-21 season.

I suppose but Kylington is currently #3 on the depth chart, with Valimaki in the AHL. If this is for a rental, then isn't it about the now? Also, having a ton of defensive depth is huge in the playoffs. If we're desperate to trade a young defenseman, makes more sense to do it in the offseason for a long-term piece.
