The Oil need to shed some money, which the rest of the league knows and Talbot makes a lot, so can't imagine the return for him will be too high if a deal happens. I'd guess a goalie in return and not a lot else.
Of all the realistically available goaltenders, Talbot seems like the best option.

I like the idea of getting Nilsson from Ottawa if a deal for Stone (or whoever) is in the offing.

Yeah I don’t see any way we trade Bennett. It would kneecap our depth when that’s exactly what we’re trying to improve.

If it happens, I see it being heavy on futures.

2019 1st? 2020 1st? 2020 2nd? Dillon Dube? Maybe even one of the defenceman, but even on that front I don’t think so because to extend Stone successfully, Brodie likely needs to be moved and how can we do that if we don’t have all of Kylington, Andersson, and Valimaki still in the fold?

We have so many key positions filled by young players that spending futures like this on the right player is a no brainer to me. Hopefully it works out.

When we traded for Lindholm, of course the Hurricanes were getting Bennett so both players would get a change of scenery.

Bennett "has" to part of the package for a Mark Stone that is presumably NOT re-signing in OTT?

Really?

1) Don't think many people called the Hamilton trade. I remember I was in Houston and coming back on draft day. That was a huge shock.

2) Hamonic deal wasn't very well advertised

3) That trade rumour thread was all about Hamilton moving to the Canes. He was the main focus, not Bennett.

Personally, I would rather get rid of Bennett than Jankowski. However, I think Bennett has more value because of his draft position and maybe wants too much money on his next contract.

Myers and Tanev are up as UFAs, and the Jets also need to extend a bunch of younger guys like Petan, Brossoit, and Roslovic, who all merit raises.
They are not unlike Calgary who would have challenges keeping Stone if they acquired him. Being a hometown guy and all around great player I could see the Jets moving other controllable pieces around to make it work similar to what the Flames would do.

I would never of speculated Laine moving on but something seems a little off there and while it could be a huge risk for the Jets to part ways it would soften the blow by retaining local boy Mark Stone plus the fantastic package of picks and prospects they would get.

Jets have more futures than us they can offer. Might hurt our chances on Stone.

The only extra futures they have to offer is their 2019 2nd round pick.

The Jets don't have the Stone's to land Mark Stone. Brad Treliving is walking around like Vincent K. McMahon with some giant grapefruits. Cheveldayoff just doesn't measure up.

You take that back. The VKM strut is reserved for special people in Coiler Town.

Smith for Talbot.

I still want Howard but don't want to pay a first.

I'd say the prospects or young guys Calgary could offer may be better than the Jets, though I obviously know the Flames pool better. Is Vesalainen a stronger prospect than what Calgary can offer? I mean, Valimaki and Kylington have pretty decent NHL bodies of work to show, and then there's Dube, who has put up points in the AHL at about the same rate.

Dube, Kylington & a 2019 1st is one heck of a package. IMO

Oilers want to shed salary. No incentive for them at all

If Flyers are potentially getting Talbot, maybe the Flames could shake Stolarz loose to shore up the goaltending

I think it’ll take something very close to that to get it done. I’d like to add Frolik to that package if Ottawa would be willing to eat his salary.

I think he is referring to the moments after the trade when no one knew what the return was. I remember when the Hamilton trade broke people speculated Gaudreau could be going the other way it took a while for it to shake out it was just picks.

Too rich for a rental. Change Kylington to an expendable roster forward and add a conditional pick if he re-signs.
