No, this is NOT common practice in New Zealand, and no, Domino's here did not do this as any more than a novelty gag.
I'm pretty sure the canned spaghetti on pizza thing goes back to an instagram post that our PM at the time, Bill English, put up of a canned spaghetti and pineapple pizza he made, for which he was mocked mercilessly by both kiwis and foreigners. Pretty sure John Oliver got in on the roasting too.

The dominos thing was a limited time offer, and it was a direct reference to the former PM

^Is Dominoes in New Zealand inferior to North America like it is in Australia?
It is so bad here and doesn’t even come close to the original taste. The crust is thicker and more flavourless, the sauce has no tangyness, and the toppings and cheese are cheap. I’m pretty sure their sausage is just a sliced hot dog. Also their pizzas are strangely only available in one size.
Pizza Hut is also just as bad. Little Caesars however tastes the same as in Canada.

I'd say this is mostly accurate. They started doing different sized pizzas like 2-3 years ago, confusingly the sizes are large, extra large, and New Yorker which is the largest. Dominos in Canada is definitely better, and I'd say in NZ dominos > pizza hut. Dont think we have little caesar's here.

Two pizzas I would never order for myself. Not sure I will even bother voting.

The ultimate battle. Who can we offend more?
Pizza - with pineapple pizza
Or
Party Elephant - with hilarious New Zealand food creations, that don’t really exist.
I expect to see a video of you asking for this at your local Dominos by the end of the day.

Pizza hasn’t acknowledged his custom user title yet so I’ll take Party Elephant and New Zealand’s national dish the Spaghetti Pineapple pizza

I'll come out and say it that pepperoni is not my favorite at all.
Pepperoni is such an overpowering topping. The flavor steals away from anything else on the pizza. Not to mention how salty it is. Where's the subtlety and complexity?
I enjoy the taste of pepperoni, and I'll eat it if someone orders it, but it's most of the time it's just TOO MUCH.
Pizzas built around chicken are my favorite since you can taste everything else going on, and the chicken itself is tasty. Furthermore, chicken goes with anything - you can do a ranch based sauce, butter based, sweet sauces, spicy sauces, bbq sauce, etc.

Hilarious that the Hawaiian vs Pep/Bacon/green pepper side has way more votes than the other side of the bracket.

For what it's worth, I grew up in Auckland during the 80s and 90s, and canned spaghetti on pizza was definitely a thing growing up. Homemade pizzas typically had canned spaghetti as a base as opposed to tomato/pizza sauce in my circle. I don't recommend it, but it was likely something Bill English grew up with as well.

Is pepperoni/bacon/green peppers a thing? I'm a big fan of pepperoni/green pepper -- possibly even moreso than Hawaiian -- but have never once added bacon to it. The extra saltiness seems unnecessary, and it's not like it adds anything in terms of texture.
Pepperoni/Green peppers > Pepperoni > Pepperoni/Bacon/Green peppers

Depends on the place, but proper bacon really puts it over the top. Give it a try! It definitely adds texture with some crispy bits on top.

Perhaps. But if I was going to add a meat it would be Italian sausage. Underrated IMO when it comes to pizza, and it goes well with onions as well.

If Hawaiian wins it’ll be the biggest voting travesty since Nov. 9, 2016.

I doubt it is on very many menus. It's a "build your own pizza."

Eh, Italian sausage is so hit or miss, and most pizza places it's garbage. Next time you get pep gr pepper, go a half and half sausage and bacon. Zee bacon will win!

I have never had a chicken pizza that I liked. Chicken just isn't flavorful enough, and it doesn't really complement the characteristics of the sauce or the cheese. What's the point in adding it? I would choose plain cheese pizza over chicken.

I definitely like Greek with chicken. Greek has so many other strong flavours (the olives, the onions, the feta) that it doesn't need the protein to add much flavour-wise, and it really just makes it more substantial.
