DeBoer's point seems to be that players got so good at embellishing that for the refs it's beyond human abilities to tell a real penalty from a dive/sell job.

I do agree the MacKinnon praise was getting really overblown here, for a guy that still has yet to accomplish anything of substance in the playoffs over his entire career while playing for avery good team.
One of the points often brought how Oilers would be better and the Avs worse if he and McDavid switched places. Now that doesn't seem so obvious at all.

So much for the people who said the Avs were an unstoppable juggernaut.

Mackinnon will not be playing on such a powerful team going forward.
The Cap is going to tear the Avs apart. 20M in space to sign
UFA Landeskog
UFA Saad
RFA Jost (arbitration rights)
RFA Makar (They signed Rantanen to a 6 x 9.25 in his first RFA year and Makar is better, more valuable)
UFA Nemeth
PLus 2 goalies
Plus they will likely have another spot to fill after the expansion draft.
Johnson NMC, Girard, Makar, would be the protected guys: Toews, Graves would obviously be top-4 maybe 3 on most teams in the League.
It will be interesting to see who takes advantage of Colorado's situation.

I wonder what Makar’s number is. It’s gotta be huge. I wonder if someone would offer sheet him.

Chabot got $8M AAV; you'd think Makar would get something similar

I'll readily admit, part of my MacKinnon praise also stems from how it irks Oiler fans when I tell them MacKinnon is the best player in the league and actually performs in big games. I am disappointed Stone was so effective at shutting him down, as it was definitely fun getting them all riled up, but I have no doubts he'd be able to do that to McDavid as well.
I do think the Avs team is overrated, and until they can do more than what they've shown the last two years, I'll refrain from calling them some sort of dynasty in the making, when they have yet to make it past the 2nd round.

But you don’t find it a little weird that there wasn’t a single minor against Vegas that wasn’t delay of game that occurred in the last 8 periods of that series?
And sure putting the whistles away goes both directions for Colorado and Vegas but one of those teams is rolling at a 41% PP in the playoffs and the other is at 14%.
So if you just decide to put away the whistles in the series you’re taking away part of what makes Colorado good, and giving an edge to Vegas.
And honestly if this is how they want the hockey in the playoffs to be played, and if they feel like this makes the games more entertaining, then just go back to calling it this way in the regular season too. Having one rule book for the regular season and one for the playoffs is a bit of a joke.
|
Yeah it’s the time of year when non-hockey fans start asking questions like “is that even allowed!?” And people who have played and watched the sport their entire lives can respond with “I have no ####ing idea anymore”.

I havent read everything, but that was fantastic! That was playoff hockey!
The Knights played a game-plan against the Avs to perfection and thats the kind of hockey I love to see.
That Vegas forecheck was relentless. It was wave after wave, line after line, causing hell in the Avalanche zone.
Preventing the breakout, rotation among the players, two men in on the forecheck preventing the Avs from easily clearing their zone, and it starts with excellent centers allowing the D to pinch and rotate and hold the line.
The Avs would get control, have a couple forwards looking for the outlet and the Knights would break it up and then gain offensive zone time.
Just look at how many goals were generated just by not letting the Avs clear their zone and then capitalizing on defensive mistakes.
Whats that? Going up in a series only to lose 4 straight? Couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of guys!

We will.
He'll be 39 and he'll sign a boat anchor contract while the Flames continue to chase the 8th seed with an aging forward core, built around wingers.

will be frustrating for colorado to have assembled what seemed like a really good team, to be forced into making some drastic changes in the off season and to have fallen well short of the goal.
goes to show how short the window is seemingly open for.
Maybe a bunch of their guys will come down with some type of condition that causes them to miss the 2021/2022 regular season

Time will tell of the Avelanche will be another Sharks or a lightening.
Some teams seem ready for a cup and never get it and others find a way.

If the Flames still want Kadri he is a prime candidate for 4.5 M x 1 salary dump. The Jets got Steen for a conditional 4th and a 6.5 cap hit less the 850k Vegas took back in Dahlstrom.
The Oilers have the cap space.

Well, the Hawks had to trade cap and retool a few times during their run and came back to win the Cup twice more.
Their core always remained the same though.
