3 out of 4 seasons Vegas are division champs. Flames are the only other team to win a division with Vegas in it.

Full credit to Vegas. What a turnaround! I feel like that first goal against by Grubauer was the killer for the Avs tonight. That was brutal. I’m very curious to see what they do this off-season. With all the high-profile coaches available, do we think there’s any way they fire Bednar?

It’s a 50/50 on Bednar I think. They have a small window with their current lineup before the young guys are paid so who knows. If anything as their 7th dman they may want a shut down guy to play on occasion. Personally I’m not big on Ryan Graves at all. But aside from that you more or less go with the same lineup as there aren’t any holes. Terrible luck for Grubauer where you have to question if he can handle the pressure of big games.

Bednar’s kind of panicky line changes after the 2-2 game didn’t work very well IMO.

With Johnson having a full NMC and assuming he won’t waive it the Avs could be poised to lose one of Toews or Girard in expansion if they do not cut a side deal with Seattle which would be a pretty steep price like the Wild paid to keep their Dmen.
Could cost a forward like Burakovsky (Haula) and prospect like Newhook (Tuch)

Crazy to think the Wild almost took out Vegas in round 1.

I'm just happy Vegas temporarily halted the Mackinnon circle jerk around here.

Once again though it’s NHL reffing inconsistency rearing its head.
First two games: Vegas 13 minor penalties
After game 2 Deboer went on a rant about the reffing and Colorado embellishments.
Next 4 games: Vegas took 7 minor penalties
And the craziest thing is that the last minor penalty that wasn’t a delay of game call took place in the 1st period of game 4. 8 periods without calling a minor penalty that isn’t an automatic call.
Just ridiculous game management by NHL refs that’s leads to the grittier and more defensive team having an advantage.

Deboer didn't even blame the refs.
...he just pointed out their incompetence.
Quote:
“Just a soft call. But I can’t even blame the refs,” DeBoer said in his post game presser. “They’re fighting through the embellishment of grabbing your face or falling down or dropping your stick every period. I can’t even blame the ref. They fool them on it.”
|
Deboer doesn't get fined for talking around perceived bad calls, while Cassidy speaks more directly and does get fined...I guess that's the NHL for you. "They're bad calls...but I don't blame the refs, they're just bad calls"...so wait, what? You're criticizing the refs just the same..."You suck at your job, but I don't blame you"

That distinction belonged to the Ovi & the Caps prior to 2018.

I don’t even really care who won the series.
But you don’t find it a little weird that there wasn’t a single minor against Vegas that wasn’t delay of game that occurred in the last 8 periods of that series?
And sure putting the whistles away goes both directions for Colorado and Vegas but one of those teams is rolling at a 41% PP in the playoffs and the other is at 14%.
So if you just decide to put away the whistles in the series you’re taking away part of what makes Colorado good, and giving an edge to Vegas.
And honestly if this is how they want the hockey in the playoffs to be played, and if they feel like this makes the games more entertaining, then just go back to calling it this way in the regular season too. Having one rule book for the regular season and one for the playoffs is a bit of a joke.

Avs can't seem to get over that 2nd round hump. Reminds me of the Thornton Sharks. Superstar and star players all over the roster, yet choking away after dominating round 1. Rinse and repeat.
I guess Mackinnon isn't the generational playoff performer CP thinks he is. JK, he is amazing and I would give anything to have him . Still PPG this series, but he looked human some games.
Have to credit Vegas. Must be fun to be a fan of them. What a team full of heart and passion. Playing for each other game in and out and absolutely built for the playoffs.
B2B Conference finals and another finals appearance. All in their first 4 seasons of existence. I wish the Flames were Vegas. Seriously.
