They are asking what the market dictates. If the Jays don't agree with that market then they should have moved them before when they were worth more and not spent years trying to build around them. They said they were good enough players to build a team around, but they weren't good enough to pay for it. Jays have tried to have their cake and eat it to, which is what poorly runs teams do.
But I agree, drafting and developing is the biggest issue with this org and the biggest reason why they appear to be in quite a mess.

Jays should put a claim on Diego Cartaya, 23 years old catcher from the Dodgers organization. Good power, was once a top prospect in their system. Toronto is thin on catching depth.

Awesome. Hopefully he catches on with the Jays. Talent is there.
Edit: is this confirmed? Haven't seen it anywhere yet

Sorry, I mistyped, it should read that they should put a claim on Cartaya. Sorry for the confusion.

Really, teams who have issues signing FA's should be active in the trade market and get players that way.
The 2012 swing by AA was an all timer, to get Beurhle, Jose Reyes and Josh Johnson + others.
They got 3 solid years of Beurhle, Reyes got flipped for Tulo, and Johnson hurt himself after the first year. Kick started that 2015 playoff run.
Given how supposedly connected Shapiro is, the only deal they've done this year is with his old team in Cleveland.

Listening to Jim Bowden on MLB radio this weekend, he made an interesting point in regards to Alonso, he said that what Boras will quite often do if they don’t get the offers they want on long term deals, they will pivot to look for short term deals with higher AAV with opt outs and look to re-enter the market in a year or two.
So maybe an option for the Jays if they can’t land Bregman, which I think is a long shot, then they can target Alonso on a short term deal. They can play Vlad at 3B, Alonso at 1B, with DH days for both. They would also need Santander for any of it to make sense.
I doubt it would happen, but it would be a better scenario than Moancada.

The Blue Jays and Guerrero are at least $100 million apart, reports USA Today's Bob Nightengale, who adds the player is looking for a megadeal worth at least $450 million.

So it was rumoured they offered $340 x 7 = $48.5M per season
Sounds like he's asking for $450M but duration was not mentioned.
So $100M sounds like a lot but it's really not depending on duration - Vladdy Jr will be 27 when this contract kicks in - so you could probably go 9 or 10 years.
If Jays were offering $340 x 7 and just upped it to $440 x 9 that's pretty much the same annual value but closer to what Vlad's ask is. And he's still only 36 at the end of that contract.

But I'd imagine if they're saying they're $100m apart, they're suggesting they're $100mil apart on the same number of years, not that toronto could just add years to get to his ask.

I'm not sure. The extra later years are a big factor here.
I don't see him asking for $450 * 7, that's a $64M annual value, which would be $13M more annually than Soto ($51M), and $24M more than Judge ($40M), but behind only Ohtani ($70M).
My guess here is he's okay with the $48-$50M per season which gas him in the Soto range for AAV, he just wants more years to guarantee more money

Yeah. And I think both he and the Jays know it's pretty unlikely a 35 year old Vladdy is getting 1 year deals for $50 MM, so really the huge overpay on the end is effectively increasing the price of the near-term years. You do get to spread it out for luxury tax/payment purposes, which is a benefit.

From that article it says that Bo is as good as gone and has no interest in staying. It also mentions that Vladdy has interest in going to Boston, he has also hit a ton at Fenway.
It mentions that the Jays have some interest in Alonso.
I wouldn’t be opposed to sending Vladdy to Boston, I am guessing that Casas would be part of the return which is fine, but I would want another position player prospect preferably a high end prospect in return as well.
Bo will have to rebuild his value and then you can move him at the deadline.
This team is headed towards a rebuild which is terrifying with Shapiro and Atkins running the ship and the fact that ownership loves Shapiro so he isn’t going anywhere, and that means Atkins is also here to stay.
