And on the side note, Jays had the fifth best odds for the draft to get number 1. Instead they drop three spots and will draft eighth. Not that big a deal in MLB. We’ll wait and see.

I'm honestly okay with this. Effective second baseman are hard to find. They probably don't have any notable prospects aside from Barrea and Martinez, so as long as it doesn't involve them, I think it'll be a solid trade.

I like 15 for Soto more than I like 8 years for a 30 year old pitcher who had his first Tommy John 10 years ago.

I'm the first to jump on the Atkins pitchfork club, but truly, 2B aren't too great out there offensively. I don't agree with the D-first these past few years, but I can see some upside potential here. And if it doesn't fully pan out he's still a solid second baseman in comparison to many in the league. They'll be judged more for what they're about to do with LF, 3B, DH and potentially Bo. At second you were never going to get an elite offensive guy.

Gimenez was a 2.8 fwar player last year, 3.8 the year before and 6.1 the year before that. He is predicted to put up 3.2 war next year. He is a 30SB guy who has 10-15 HR power. A solid pick up depending on the return. He is still only 26.

Again depending on the acquisition cost this is better than signing Gleyber Torres.

OK, so I agree Mookie Betts at 2B isn't available, so maybe you can't do much better than this for 2B. But it's also nearly $20MM/year in cash on average for 5 years, and I think you could add more offense than this for $19MM per year.

Unless they're also spending big on a DH, 3B and 2x corner outfielders I think this money would be better off getting a bat for one of those spots.

Obviously depends on what's going the other way, and if the Guardians are picking up some of the money that helps as well.

Honestly, looking at this guys profile (strong arm and elite speed) I bet he'd be above average defensively at 3B and SS to go along with his elite 2B defense.

Just for the record Gimenez makes $10.5m this coming year, $15.5m the year after and $23.5m the following 3 years.
