Flames Flames are the frontrunner for college UFA D Colton Poolman

Brad Elliott Schlossman
@SchlossmanGF
The Calgary Flames appear to be the frontrunner to land UND senior captain Colton Poolman, an undrafted free agent defenseman.

brother of Jets d-man Tucker Poolman

https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...colton-poolman

was sought after last year but decided to go back to college

write up on him:

Good to see the Flames diving into the college free agent pool.
Far better than simply treading water in this area.

You can never be too shallow when it comes to D prospects.

Im never sure if it’s exciting news or not.
Since previous guys we’ve signed hasn’t really turned out to be much of anything.

Poolman was another guy from UND who I hoped the Flames might have interest in.

That's a good team.

Guys like these you don't get overly excited about. They are just another chance to get a NHLer.

If you happen to hit and get a replacement player or better then that is great. If you get a Hathaway type, you are laughing. If not, no big deal, you didn't give up a pick, prospect, or roster player for him.

Guys like these allow the organization to pick boom/bust prospects with their late round picks instead of the solid gritty guys with little upside.

If the Flames do sign him, it will be a 1 year ELC after which he will be RFA. This is because he is 24 years old as of Sept 15 this year.

Every time he scores, we need a cover of "Spoonman" by Soundgarden but with the chorus changed to "POOLMAAAAAAAN".

Wolff going to the Bruins per the same source that has the Flames as Front runners for Poolman.

Reports out of Sweden is that the Caps are going after Kinnvall
