Guys, give them a break, Murray Edwards was just waiting for the interest in his savings account to grow a bit.

If it dragged on for longer I'd probably change my tune but now that it's all dealt with and didn't even take a whole weekend, I gotta be honest, I don't think think I really care. Still lots of employees at lots of other corporations that are gonna be screwed in the coming weeks

Looks like we got a case of doublethink on our hands.

If you actually care about the staff what matters is that they are being taken care of not how we got there.

As far as I know there are still teams that don't intend to pay...why not point your pitchforks their way?

I’ve got some bad news for Murray about interest rates.

The measure of a person's a character is how they act when they think no one is watching.

However, the mesure of a person's character can equally be judged by admitting a mistake and correcting it.

We shouldn't be saying "They should have done X" from the get go and use that as the measuring stick.

We should be seeing what the team does next time, and see if this was a teachable moment or not.

If it was a teachable moment, then great. I'm proud of the team.

It's as important to forgive someone trying to fix an ethical mistake, as it is to not make the ethical mistake in the first place.

Perhaps due to the fact I'm not a fan of those teams. They preach community and then when it got real they bailed until the pitchforks came out.

So sorry you cannot fathom why people would be legitimately choked at the organization.

I'm glad that people I know personally will be compensated with something.

Still not going to pretend I'm impressed.

Would love for the organization to put more emphasis on the well being of its employees and its relationship with its city. They need to care more about the optics of their decisions moving forward. I'd say they now really need some wins (better responses and genuinely selfless actions) in the coming years to restore the good will of its supporters and community in full.

One gift for the longtime fans I'd suggest would be paying up to get a good veteran coach here. just saying.

I fathom why its just what are you gonna do?

Boycott the Flames? That hurts the workers more than anyone
Cancel the arena funding? Again, optics aside this shows how many rely on the Flames for their livelihood.

Doublethink is from George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984. It’s two different ideas/facts that are contrary to each other but a person believing both are true.

But you also literally wrote think twice in a row.

I doubt we'll ever know, but I'm curious where in the chain of command the initial decision was made. Was it the president and CEO, John Bean? Was it the chairman, Murray Edwards? Was it all the owners together? CFO? VP level?

Yeah, clearly, but fumbling such an obvious decision is concerning.

Yeah, clearly, but fumbling such an obvious decision is concerning.
The release is signed by John Bean so at least that high.

Murray could not be reached in his north Atlantic billionaire bunker.

Why would I do anything other than voice my displeasure. Maybe support another franchise who did it properly right out the gates. Onus isnt on us here. It's on them.

Voice your displeasure all you want

If you are actually worried about the local workers supporting another franchise doesn't make much sense IMO

He sent the initial email? Or are you referring to the reaction once the all the pressure hit?

Frankly I think it started out of normal corporate operations, and the difficulty of covering part timers who may or may not have even been scheduled for games in the future (I imagine schedules are set weekly). So they went with the easy way without thinking or probably going for directions.
