I hope you'll let me indulge, but in the absence of for real hockey, I thought I would put in a occasional imaginary Out of town scoreboard.
Mystery, Alaska vs The New York Rangers (Ex)
the much anticipated exhibition game between the Snowmen of Mystery and the bigger stronger Professional New York Rangers took place on an enormous pond today. Young Stevie Weeks the teams designated premature ejaculator returned from a concussion to lead the team with a goal and an assist. While Connor Banks clanged one off the cross bar with time running out as the Rangers won 5-4.
Maybe we could have a daily fantasy hockey team tournament/bracket where we vote for a single match up day by day to determine the all time fictional hockey team.
Maybe one side of the bracket could be the good guys in the movie and the otherside the rivals?
Proposed teams:
Mighty Ducks
Letterkenny Shamrocks
Charlestown Cheifs
Mystery Snowmen
Halifax Highlanders
Monroeville Zombies (Zack and Miri make a porno)
Nuggets (MVP)
Standford Hockey (Senseless)
Whatever Team the Rock played for in The Tooth Fairy
Those are the ones off the top of my head, but i'm sure there has to be more. If anyone has any suggestions toss them out!
I'll put together a bracket tomorrow and a right up to get started. Then we'll have maybe a couple of games a day.
This is a single knock out tournament, I'll figure out the evil villains tomorrow.
We'll maybe leave a day for a vote and have two games a day, and I'll provide a simple write up on what happened in the game.
Sound cool?

For some reaason, Mystery, Alaska is just such a repeat watching movie for me. Maybe its the Burt Reynold's factor. Or that it was an amazing cast. Or Ron Elard taking a heroic slap shot to the sack.
But its one of those rare movies where there's very little that irritates me except how it didn't take 20 minutes for the Mystery team to return to the dressing room since they had that down hill ice path but no stairs anywhere.
But it was a fun little movie with what I think is a big heart. One of my favorite hockey movies
(Though really, on the big ice, the Rangers would have pasted them in real life)

Since there's more time of my hands these days - maybe I'll do some storytime!
Mystery, Alaska Fun Facts:
Opening Scene:
The opening scene of me skating the river, was shot near the Lewellyn Glacier and the lake in front of it. We flew to Whitehorse, drove to a very small town, Atlin, BC I think, and took an Otter and Helicopters to the edge of the glacier where we filmed the skating scenes.
I didn't see it, but apparently we lost a CAT Snow Removal unit because it got dropped through the ice. The experience was insanely cool. I could skate under some of the icebergs that had come off the glacier and the ice was smooth and a kind of blue you can't even imagine. I skated that lake what feels like a thousand times, and I was EXHAUSTED. Helicopter shots, close-ups, long-shots...that's a lot of skating.
I flew to the glacier in the Otter - sitting in the co-pilot seat - not far above the glaciers. You don't realize the enormity of these until you're right there. It was wild. On the way back, I flew in the co-pilot seat of the helicopter which a little scarier. I think about that now, as a not-so-great flyer and can't believe I didn't freak out, but I was young and full of vigor.
The skeleton crew we had with us all stayed at the Atlin Mountain Inn, we certainly enjoyed a few beer the night before and after shooting.
Here's the bummer part: While I went and shot this, the rest of the guys were filming the National Anthem scenes with Little Richard...so I never got to meet him
