RIP.....Henri Richard passes away at age 84
One of the all time greats who was way way under-rated on those power house Hab teams.
11 time Stanley Cup winner.
Quote:
The Montreal Canadiens were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former captain and Hall of Famer, Henri Richard, earlier today in Laval at age 84.
Born in 1936 in Montreal, Henri spent his entire 20-year NHL career with the Canadiens. He was the only player, along with teammate Jean Béliveau, to accomplish this feat.
Poor Henri has had dementia for years. Arguably a better all around player than his more famous brother. Henri won 11 Cups, which is as many as the Detroit Red Wings have won. 160 lbs soaking wet and as tough as the Rocket. RIP, Henri.

Sad. But it brings to mind the time my wife attended an event with a silent action and came home with a framed, signed photo and told me she’d gotten a Rocket Richard item for me. Of course, it was Henri.
I actually liked it because I remembered watching Henri on TV (too young for the Rocket).

He had more Stanley Cup rings than fingers. He must've just been used to winning. RIP.

Saw him in an oldtimer's game when I was a teenager. He skated over to the bench to get a new stick. He snapped the blades off of three sticks with his bare hands before he got to one he thought was usable. Ridiculously strong.

Had his hockey card as a youngster and now it's in a frame in my son's room. Back when many players looked like regular middle aged guys. I'm no Habs fan but I am in awe of their history and tradition.
May he rest in peace.

Loved the fact that he was a leap year baby - so only 21 for real. It was said he won 11 cups before he turned 10. Read that earlier today somewhere but can recall where so cant cut and paste.
Old enough to remember him well on HNIC, which were then Saturday nights only and one game only. It was a 6 team league and I know he was still playing after expansion. The HABs or Toronto were always one of the teams.
No one wore lids then, so what I really recall was the thick white hair. He stood out! Also recall he could really wheel for his era, great skater. A life well lived, he will be remembered.

Ha! I came home with a framed signed silent auction item that I told my wife was the rocket. And I had to bid it up because it would have been a crime to let that go for less.
The good news is that memory has saved me from thousands in stupid silent auction purchases since.
