Default Do we have a team identity yet?

Looking at our stats since February 8, which is supposedly when Ward and the Flames coaching staff "listened" to the players and moved Backlund back to centre (with Lindholm returning to the wing with Gaudreau and Monahan), the Flames are 9th in points and points percentage (8-4-1).

What is interesting is that they are 2nd in GF/Game at 4.23; the only team that is higher is Philadelphia with 4.58 (not surprisingly they've gone 10-2-0 in that span). In distant 3rd is Vegas, who have scored a full goal less per game (3.50).

Enlarging the sample size (I arbitrarily picked January 1, 2020 to today), the Flames are still 9th in points and point percentage (15-9-2). They drop down to 5th in GF/Game, but are also 21st in GA/Game (it was worse before Talbot recently got that shutout against Florida).

So the Flames are scoring a lot more, but also giving up more than the league average. Is that enough to get us to the playoffs? And will that be sustainable going forward? I'm encouraged that some of our "top" guys are starting to produce offensively; I think it's clear trying to beat teams 1-0 or 2-1 isn't a good recipe for success with how this roster has been built.

P.S. Just for context, prior to January 1, the Flames sat 25th in GF/Game; they fall to 30th if you isolate it to games where Peters was the head coach. Second last to second best is a pretty significant swing...

The tendency to coast through a game and then only really try in the last 10 minutes has been troubling all year.

They have the talent to pull it off most nights, but it makes me feel as though their team identity is 'championship calibre talent, entitled brat work ethic'.

I think over the past two seasons we've established ourselves as the best 10-minute team in the NHL, while also nailing down being a bottom-third 50-minute team.

Mentally weak?

Missing confidence?

Lacking attention to detail?

Rinse & repeat as all three feed off of each other until the cycle can be broken.

We’ve got a few traits.

-Highly skilled
-Easily rattled
-Explosive in spurts
-Inconsistent
-Ride waves of momentum both ways

I honestly think that sums it up under a large umbrella. We aren’t the only team like this.

I’ve yet to see a fan base that doesn’t complain about inconsistency.

If I remember the infographic correctly, after last night the Flames are second behind Boston for 3rd period come back wins. I don't think that stat supports the notion the Flames are "mentally weak" or "easily rattled". Now, I have no idea where we are in giving up 3rd period leads, so my point may be a terrible one.

Judging by a consistent theme from the ATL's, we're jerks to play against. Lots of hate for Tkachuk and Lucic. Sometimes Giordano.

If we make the playoffs, and Bennett is playoff Bennett and Rinaldo plays more consistently than Reider, we'll definitely be jerks to play against.

Consistently inconsistent.

Wards been preaching work all year . Work Ethic and it's not hard to see. It comes in spurts .
If it was allot more spurt wed have everything covered and wouldnt have to worry about coming from behind so much.

Its exciting coming from behind yes ....butt sometimes ya gotta be ready and raring to go with a little more umph.
