Out of what appears to be the final 5 I hope it is Rice. Seems less problematic than Harris, Bass and Whitmer (though out of those three I go with Harris) I like Duckworth as well but thinks she needs some more experience as part of an administration so I sort remove her from the top 5 and get a top 4 of:
Rice
Harris
Whitmer
Bass (her Castro comments are going to hurt in Florida and elsewhere...but especially Florida).
Let’s face it no matter who they pick the GOP will make awful comments as the only thing worse than a black male president might be a powerful woman of color.

The thing about Susan Rice as VP is that it's a clear "this is going to be the Obama administration over again" signal, which will cause people like Rubecube to become completely apoplectic.
The other thing is we have no idea what she's like on a campaign. I'll still take that over the known quality of Kamala being demonstrably terrible at it, but it's a risk.

It's such an incredible admission of impotence that I don't understand how it's supposed to work. 'We've had control of the executive, the DoJ, the house (for 2 years), the senate, and a majority in the supreme court. There was this incredible and obvious crime committed just before we took office, and in the last four years we've produced exactly zero charges or changes in policy related to this. But definitely vote for us so we can get to the bottom of it.'

I'm on the Duckworth bandwagon myself. I wouldn't mind Harris but Duckworth is my top pick.
I think Rice just brings to much baggage. People who already made up their mind to vote for Biden probably won't be affected, but I can see the choice making Trump supporters more emboldened. Supporters for Trump that may have been demoralized enough to not vote could be swung back in his favour if Biden chooses a controversial figure from the Obama administration.
Maybe it wouldn't change the outcome of the election in general, but it could enforce the line in the sand and make the job of governing more difficult.

I don't think any of the potential picks are bad, but there's none that check all the boxes:
ready to step in and govern: Rice, Harris, Whitmer, Warren
Diversity: Rice, Harris, Bass, Duckworth
Comfort level with Biden: Rice, Warren... maybe Harris?
Difficult for Trump to effectively critique: Whitmer, Duckworth
Olive branch to progressives: Warren, Bass
Known quantity: Harris, Warren
You could add other qualifiers to this list, or argue for including or excluding candidates from various qualifiers. But Rice fits what I'd guess are the most important boxes to Biden so I'd give her the inside edge.

I think Duckworth is incredible. I just think she needs a little more seasoning so to speak, but she is certainly smart and competent enough to handle the role. I certainly wouldn’t be upset if it were her but just don’t think it’s her time....yet. I can only imagine the awful things Trump will say about her.
Above...I don’t think Warren is in consideration anymore. The final 5 seemed to be Rice, Whitmer, Harris, Duckworth and Bass.

Trump will say the word Benghazi 10 million times before November. Rice would be the wrong choice IMO, Trump is scared ####less of Harris
