In 2015, who would have thought that Ryan, a man who was older than Lucic and had never played in the NHL, would be better than Lucic in just a few years.

It's amazing how differently players age.

In an ideal world, the money that we get back when Ryan's deal comes up, has to be used to re-sign Bennett to his next deal

Exactly, after next season you thank him for his good service and move on to someone younger and cheaper.

Ryan is new stajan. But I don’t want him around after this year. It’s time for a youth movement, and we don’t need his salary around.

His salary will be very difficult to move though

I think he is a good player that any team would like to have, and for that reason I think that he MAY be unloaded this off-season if Treliving is going to really try to sign Hall, especially if Gaudreau is kept on and Brodie is re-signed (or even if he is not, someone has to play tough minutes with Giordano, and it won't come much cheaper than Brodie's salary this season).

I hope it works out and Ryan is retained, but he might be a cap casualty this off-season. I really like him and find him surprisingly effective all over the ice though. Hope he stays. From a re-signing him perspective, if he is still here next season, you Erik Estrada is right - you really have to take a wait-and-see attitude with him. No rush to sign him. He likes it here, and the Flames like him. I am sure they will work out a contract that works if he is still around and is still a fit on this team.

I think you let the deal get to the end, and if you still think he can fill a spot on the roster, and he will sign a one year deal that works with the team's cap space you can do that. But when the deal expires, if you don't have anyone better in your system, than go find a similar guy who's 3 years younger that you can sign for his old deal.
