Default Suspicious death at Pemberton music festival

Not a very good start to the festival.
Quote:
The death occurred at an official festival campsite and the crime scene has been cordoned off by police. The body is still located at where it was found and it is believed that the death happened in the early evening.

Homicide investigators from Metro Vancouver are en route to the scene. A mobile police command unit has arrived at the site.

Festival organizers have issued a statement confirming the death:

The Pemberton Music Festival can confirm that an accident has occurred in one of the festival campgrounds. RCMP are onsite investigating. HUKA Entertainment is working with Pemberton Fire Rescue to care for campers who need to be relocated during the police investigation.

Festival attendee Reut Amit tweeted that bathrooms at the campsite may be cordoned off by police throughout the weekend.

If it wasn't for the internet you wouldn't know this happened. It didn't impact the festival itself in that it was in the camping area.

But ya, this is certainly a black mark on the festival and very sad indeed.

I spent the day at the festival yesterday and camped overnight and had not heard anything about this until i saw the news today.

Very sad news.

I must say though that despite this the event itself has been a lot of fun, extremely well organized and was a very positive experience.

I don't see how they can host another iteration of this festival, after all the rigamarole to get it up and running again after 2008.

I don't see why not. By all accounts this has been a pretty successful festival. Well organized and great acts in my opinion.

I am not trying to diminish the passing of the young man, however it is not uncommon for people to unfortunately lose their lives at music festivals. It's happened at Coachella, Shambhala, 2 this year at Glastonbury, Bonnaroo has had 10 people die since 2002. It's a very unfortunate side of these music events.

Police say foul play is no longer believed to be responsible for the death of a man at the Pemberton Music Festival last weekend.

Sergeant Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a statement Wednesday that investigators looked at autopsy results, evidence at the scene and witness statements and concluded Nick Phongsavath was not murdered.
