In my heart, ___________ will always be #14 for the Flames. Fill in that blank.
Kent Nilsson or Theo Fleury? And why?

Theo Fleury...
Because I wasn't even born when Nilsson played for the Flames.

Nilsson.
When the Flames first moved to Calgary I was a young fellow. I looked and saw that he was the leading scorer the last year in Atlanta, so I decided he would be my favourite player.
Then he blew me away with his skills. So I always loved him.
Fleury I appreciated his effort and skills, but never appreciated his antics.

Fleury is the reason I picked up a hockey stick in the first place. I wore #14 all the way from timbits hockey to the WHL.
I was born in 92 so never saw Nilsson

Fleury and Nilsson were both great ... and both flawed. I don’t think one deserves precedence over the other. Whichever one does or doesn’t earn a special niche in anyone’s heart is purely a personal matter. They’re about the same for me ... but neither is as dear to me as guys like Lanny, MacCrimmon, Iggy, Kipper, Gio or Gelinas. Theo and Kent are both rather meh to me. Both had their moments, good and bad.

Never really got to watch Nilsson. So Fleury. Captivated me as a kid when he scored that goal and slid all the way down the ice on his knees. Then as the highlight player at the beginning of the dark ages. And I remember the drama around him being traded. So many people hated it.
Then I found a new respect for him when all the James stuff came out.
End of the day, Fleury was the Flames for so long until Iggy arrived. Tough not to have him the greatest #14. Should be in the rafters. Regardless of his boisterous opinion

I wore #14 in minor hockey because Kent Nilsson was my favorite player on the Flames at that time, but for me, it's Theo all the way. Not even close.

I'm 50+ and met Nilsson when I was a teenager. Still Fleury for me.
