Default Vacuums

So, my wife has hinted heavily that she needs a new vacuum cleaner for the house, ours is a little bit heavy and unwieldy for our space. She's looked in to a few, like the Dyson cordless ones, but her friends has one and says it doesn't hold the charge very well (which is fine with me since I thought they were way too expensive).

What do you think is the best bang for your buck in the vacuum cleaner space? We would definitely need something that cleans on hardwood very well, is fairly easy to handle, but don't need crazy amounts of power as we don't have pets (just kid mess, crumbs and dirt, etc.).

The Miele they have at Costco is perfect for you. They suck.

I love my Dyson Animal. Don't think I could go back to anything else.

We have the Dyson V11 and its great. I think on max suction the battery lasts 9 mins. Just use it for hair and dirt on the hardwood.

I have two hairy pets, and a Shark Navigator(?) works quite well. The hose extensions are kind of a pain though.

Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to go back to that one either. They are only making the stick ones now. Which sucks because, like others have said, they don't hold enough charge to do more than a few rooms.

I also have the Dyson Animal and agree, that thing is awesome. I'm still horrified at how much crap comes out of my carpet using that one despite vacuuming with some regularity. Hope it never dies.

I have a Shark something or other. It's corded, but nice and light and gets up the dog's worth of hair that gets deposited each week, so no lack of suction.

If it's mainly just hardwood, grabbing a robo vacuum to do "touch ups" would work quite well for you. Major bonus... you don't have to do it yourself. Just clean the bin and clean the filter every once in a while.

There's a Shark rocket which is a "stick" vacuum that is corded, if the profile works but the battery life does not.

Personally, I'd love it if I could go robo vac + Dyson stick. I think the charge is the only downside and I think it's super hard to beat the Dyson stick for stairs.

I'll never support the company that invented those over engineered, disgusting fataing hand-dryer "air blades", with all the scum in the bottom of them and the sides that you can't help but touch as you attempt to pull your hands out with such precise dexterity not needed since trying to remove the funny bone in Operation 25 years ago.

Or even worse, the ones integrated with the faucet that blow disgusting sink water back up towards your face. Why? Who decided this is something the world has been missing?

Dyson blows.

Dyson handhelds are the cats meow.

Once you have one, you'll never go back. Our central vac really only gets used for the upstairs carpet.

Luckily I have central Vac that I use for the majority of my rooms so the Dyson is used in certain situations.

This is the only resource you will ever need on vacuums. He has 3 other AmAs that are equally as informative: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/commen..._and_ive_lost/
Based on his recommendations, my girlfriend and I bought a Miele C3 Total Care and love it, one of the best purchases we've ever made.

we have the miele c3. Love it. We were considering the dyson, but liked the miele better.

Lol. I was talking with my five year old about what he wants to get my wife for mothers day. I asked him what things mommy likes to try and get some ideas going.

He said, "Mommy likes a clean house, let's get her a broom!"

Dyson customer service is amazing too. My 7 year old vacuum out of warranty had one of the spinners literally break off (prob due to so much dog hair wrapped around it and my laziness) they said that should not be possible and shipped me a new part overnight free of charge

The "electro-floorbrush" accessory has one. This only comes standard with the C3 "Total Care", the variant with the $849 MSRP. Less expensive models don't have it, but it can be bought separately for $150-200. Not a big deal if you don't have carpets.

That said I wouldn't buy one if you had carpets anyway, in my experience the Mieles are useless on carpets even with the powered attachment. I bought a Dyson DC07 eons ago and it was great on carpets. I gave it to my parents and bought a DC66 as a replacement and it is also great. The Dyson "turbine tool" is awesome for vacuuming upholstery and stairs.
