American sets 26 year old WR in 200M
Quote:
Noah Lyles crouched down, put his hands on his knees and glared at the clock. Not seeing what he'd hoped for, he waved his hand dismissively and walked back toward the track to celebrate what was still a long-awaited win Thursday in the 200 meters at the world championships.
Oh, but this night would just keep getting better.
The clock that, for a moment, read "19.32," would adjust down a tick to "19.31." That meant he broke Michael Johnson's hallowed, 26-year-old American record -- a mark that, for decades, seemed unapproachable.
She beat two of the finalists in the 400m final that was run on the same track an hour earlier. Like if you put hurdles in front of her and nobody else, she wouldn’t have finished last.

Seeing the men atop the 4x100m podium again brought back memories of one of my all time favorite sporting moments ever, and one of the greatest calls, too.

The 4x1 win in Atlanta is possibly my favorite Canadian team
Event ever- seeing them win last night live and beat the Canadian record in the process was unbelievable

It was my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary celebration that day. I snuck Grandpa out to watch the race with me. Very happy memory.

I'd like to use this opportunity to point out that none of these impress me. My Great Uncle Leigh Miller was the fastest man in the world in 1928! https://nsshf.com/inductee/leigh-miller-2/
He ran a 10.28 100 YARD dash. Crazy to see how far we've come in less than 100 years. Quite impressive though - Leigh trained himself, which actually disqualified him from competing in the Olympics for Canada, as they didn't like that. There were no starting blocks back then either.
We've got a picture of him holding me as a lil baby. A Miller legend!
- Cool story bro.
