sharks fan here - I saw that the flames tied the game in the 3rd, so I found a stream and watched the rest of the game NOT KNOWING that they had already been eliminated. And DAMN, I was entertained! What a great finish to a game. I am now a Dustin Wolf fan.

IT's an unfortunate position to be in - miss the playoffs, but don't get a great draft position, but this season was not a lost cause when you see how well Wolf has developed.

It's hard to get anything done without a sharp goalie - flames future is bright.

edit: I've got 'Hungry like a Wolf' that was played at the game last night stuck in my head. Curse you Flames!! :-)

Wheels fell off Fleury and Wallstedt wasn't ready so they had to rely on a taped together Filip Gustavsson... If we're going to whinge about our "bad luck" we should also consider that it was because of Minny's bad luck that we were even in the hunt.
Well that, and there's 9 playoff calibre teams in the west and only 7 in the east...

I get people being upset with the Wild for winning. But literally when they were losing it was our worst 15 minute stretch in a long time in the 2nd. They couldn't even connect on a pass.

Once the Wild had won and pressure was off, the Flames played much better. But if the Wild lost I think there is a very good chance we do not make a comeback.

It works on both sides, I think. Vegas had to be motivated early on by the possibility of being the team that knocked the Flames out of the playoffs. It may not have mattered much to them in the bigger scheme of things, but it gave a sense of importance to what was otherwise a nothing game for them.

Once the Wild and Blues won their games, that took the fun out of it and the Knights had no particular reason to try so hard. So the Flames were playing loose, motivated (as the players themselves said) to salute their fans by giving them one last comeback at home, and the Knights had no particular motivation to do anything except save their health for the playoffs.

Vegas also didn't dress Eichel, Stone, Hanifin, or Pietrangelo. I doubt knocking out the Flames was high on their list.

Well, it was high on their list in the sense that it was the only tangible thing they had to play for last night. All the really important things on their list were already checked off.

Too bad about the Ducks not hanging on or that would have been one of the greatest Flames regular season games ever.

Looking forward to seeing some rookies in the final game and being in the playoff chase again next season.
