I like that as soon as Brad made the Hamonic trade, he went right back to work on replenishing young assets

Quite honestly 2nd round picks just aren't as valuable as internet hockey fans make them out to be. The odds of them becoming anything substantial are low. The fact that we've already managed to acquire an asset like Dougie Hamilton puts us way ahead.

If you are a playoff team, you have to give up 2nd/3rds every year, and that's just the way it is. In hindsight the only bad move so far is the Elliott move, although its debatable that we may not have gotten to the playoffs last year without him. That one round of playoff experience is very valuable to the team. Us getting squashed shows the team what they need to do to win.

Free assets certainly lessen the blow of losing picks, but I'm not convinced the two are directly related. Foo didn't sign because of the trades, but more because of the lack of talent at his position.

That's a problem that you fix by trading picks for players in specific positions. We have done it for goalie and defense, just not yet for the RW.

2nd round picks are a commodity. Doesn't really matter if you think fans overvalue them, their actual value is shown through on the many transactions that involve 2nd rounders every year. 1st rounders are a commodity too. You can trade them for NHL players, you can trade them for prospects, you can trade them for cap relief.

Telling us 2nd round picks are overvalued by fans is like telling us $50 bills are overvalued. It's a silly statement. 2nd rounders have a definite value. If you want to know that value or approximate it just analyze all transactions involving 2nd rounders

Seems like half of your posts are criticisms of other posters and/or their style vs. debating the topic. Just an observation that you are welcome to ignore.
