Leafs nearing extension with Muzzin (LeBrun: maybe 4 years, ~$5.5 million AAV?)

Yeah I’ve always thought Muzzin was essentially exactly a Brodie comparable, probably as close as anyone in the league.
Would love to see a similar deal for Brodie if it is around 4x5.5

I really like Brodie the person and the player. Still a I don't know that a 33 year old Brodie is what this team needs moving forward.

I'd definitely take this exact deal for Brodie!
I'm not overly concerned at Brodie being in his 30s for the deal. the over 30 degradation is much more an issue for forwards in the league. I think the dman prime is in that 27-33 realm.

If this is a Brodie comparable this is great news I think
Correct me if this is just homerism plz ...but at the same time is this a contract Leaf fans will be happy with for Muzzin?
Stats wise they look similarly unspectacular, but last I popped my head into Leafland I don't remember them being too enthusiastic about having him - even with their otherwise lacking back-end. (like Brodie) has he found his footing lately?

That's a pretty fair deal in my eyes. That said I sure hope Hamonic's agent isn't using this as an example of what they are expecting.

man, I hate to say it this way, but I don't want Hamonic back on this team. Ok ok ok, I don't want Hamonic back on this team unless his cap hit is < $3M/year, and I don't think that is remotely possible.
Bye Bye Hamonic.
I'd trade Hamonic this week. I'd also love for the flames to make a trade for a hard nosed depth dman (....I really really like that Macdermid kid in LA.)

I don't want Hamonic back. We need Dman that can actually make a play with the puck on his stick.

Take a look at the top 20 UFA article on SN
“Hamonic is a good bet to stay in Calgary long term”
Basically also says Brodie is going to be here through the deadline because of injuries.

Hamonic on a 3 year 3M AAV and Brodie on a 3 year 5-5.5 AAV would be fine.

Hamonic at 3x3 would probably look like the Stone contract by the end of it.
Andersson's emergence makes him completely redundant.

Everyone is assuming that Brodie wants to remain in Calgary. The Flames have clearly tried to trade Brodie and he knows it. Not sure if he would be eager to re-sign with a team that appears to not really want him that badly.

If Hamonic takes a low salary deal you can almost be sure he will be wanting a NMC, which we can’t do with the expansion draft looming.

Hamonic has a lot more skill than Stone. A lot more HIQ as well. Andersson is indeed a more than competent Hamonic replacement, which is why he's getting Hamonic money next year. But Hamonic is far better than Stone. Unless this injury takes a lot out of him that is.
3X3, taking him to 33, would be fine in my book. At worst you bury over half of it in the minors. This is actually a good time to negotiate, as opposed to last year when he had a much better season.
ETA: Or you extend for less term.

Over half? You can only bury about a million bucks of a cap hit in the minors.
I think the Flames would be better-served to look for cheap replacements on the open market. Maybe give Yelesin a longer look or pursue guys like Forbort, Rutta, Heed, Fantenberg, LaDue, Claesson, Gravel, etc. I honestly don't think the talent level would be that different and it would free up space to pursue a top guy like Hall.
I'd rather have Hall and Fantenberg than Hamonic and, say, Namestnikov.

You can bury 1.7 IIRC. Maybe it's 1.3.
Sure, it's all budgetary, but just saying Hamonic = Stone is not accurate at all.
ETA: 1.07 not 1.7 so you are closer.
